Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with impaired glucose metabolism in Han Chinese subjects.
Increasingly, evidence from population, clinic-based and laboratory studies supports an independent association between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes; however, this observation has yet to be replicated in China and the potential mechanisms that link these two conditions are not clear. ⋯ OSAS is associated with impairment in glucose tolerance and pancreatic β-cell function in Han Chinese subjects while insulin sensitivity is mainly determined by obesity.

Tolerability and toxicity of adjuvant cisplatin and gemcitabine for treating non-small cell lung cancer.
The combination of cisplatin and vinorelbine is an evidence-supported regimen for adjuvant chemotherapy for treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). But this doublet has considerable toxicity and unfavorable tolerability, and results in poor compliance. The cisplatin and gemcitabine regimen is one of the most active and well-tolerated regimens against advanced NSCLC, but its toxicity and tolerability has not been adequately evaluated in the adjuvant setting. ⋯ Cisplatin and gemcitabine are feasible for use in the adjuvant setting with a favorable toxicity profile and superior tolerability compared with published data on cisplatin and vinorelbine.

Protective effects of penehyclidine hydrochloride on acute lung injury caused by severe dichlorvos poisoning in swine.
Organophosphate poisoning is an important health problem in developing countries which causes death mainly by inducing acute lung injury. In this study, we examined the effects of penehyclidine hydrochloride (PHC), a selective M-receptor inhibitor, on dichlorvos-induced acute lung injury in swine. ⋯ The PHC group showed mild impairment in pathology, less apoptotic cells, and little impact on cardiac function compared with the atropine group in dichlorvos-induced acute lung injury.

Transplantation of human umbilical cord-derived endothelial progenitor cells promotes re-endothelialization of the injured carotid artery after balloon injury in New Zealand white rabbits.
Cell transplantation has great potential for promoting endothelial repair and reducing the complications of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of transplantation of human umbilical cord blood endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) on injured arteries. ⋯ EPCs derived from human umbilical cord blood were successfully transplanted into injured vessels. The transplanted EPCs inhibited neointimal hyperplasia and promoted vascular re-endothelialization.

Resection and repair of large abdominal wall lesions in gynecologic patients.
The techniques of resection and repair of large lesions in the abdominal wall are very challenging in the area of gynecology. We explored the techniques of resection and plastic surgical repair of large abdominal wall lesions in gynecologic patients. ⋯ Multi-department cooperation involving the gynecology and plastic surgery departments, and even the general surgery department, is essential for patients with large lesions in the abdominal wall. This cooperative effort enabled surgeons to completely resect large lesions. Abdominal wall plastic surgical repair can ameliorate large wounds of the abdominal wall.
