Randomized Controlled TrialEvaluation of the traditional Chinese Medicine Shensongyangxin capsule on treating premature ventricular contractions: a randomized, double-blind, controlled multicenter trial.
Premature ventricular contraction (PVC) is one of the most common kinds of arrhythmias for which the treatment falls into dilemma. Previous clinical application showed that the traditional Chinese Medicine Shensongyangxin (SSYX) capsule is efficacious for the treatment of PVCs. This randomized clinical trial aimed to further evaluate the efficacy and safety of SSYX capsule on treating PVC. ⋯ Compared with placebo or mexiletine, SSYX capsules have significant therapeutic efficacy in reducing PVCs numbers and alleviate PVCs-related symptoms.

Clinical TrialGlycemic variability in insulin treated type 2 diabetes with well-controlled hemoglobin A1c and its response to further treatment with acarbose.
Glycemic variability, an HbA1c-independent risk factor, has more deleterious effects than sustained hyperglycemia in the development of diabetic complications. This study analyzed the characteristics of glycemic variability in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with HbA1c < 6.5% in duration of twice daily premixed insulin treatment and the effect of further treatment with acarbose. ⋯ CGM system can detect the glycemic variability and asymptomatic hypoglycemic events of T2DM with well-controlled HbA1c in duration of insulin treatment. Combination therapy of premixed insulin twice daily with acarbose can flat glycemic variability and decrease hypoglycemic events.

Polymorphism on chromosome 9p21.3 contributes to early-onset and severity of coronary artery disease in non-diabetic and type 2 diabetic patients.
Susceptibility to coronary artery disease (CAD) and diabetes is encoded by distinct, tightly-linked single nucleotide polymorphisms on chromosome 9p21. This study aimed to examine the association of variant rs1333049 on chromosome 9p21.3 with early-onset and severity of CAD in Chinese patients with and without type 2 diabetes, and to determine the possible impact of rs1333049 on glucose metabolism and inflammation pathways. ⋯ This study demonstrated a significant association of rs1333049 polymorphism on chromosome 9p21.3 with CAD in Chinese diabetic and non-diabetic patients. The homozygous CC genotype of rs1333049 confers a magnified risk of early-onset and more severe CAD in diabetic patients through a novel biological pathway unrelated to glucose metabolism or inflammation.

Molecular basis of von Hippel-Lindau syndrome in Chinese patients.
Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome is an autosomal dominant familial cancer syndrome predisposing the affected individuals to multiple tumours in various organs. The genetic basis of VHL in Southern Chinese is largely unknown. In this study, we characterized the mutation spectrum of VHL in nine unrelated Southern Chinese families. ⋯ Genetic analysis could accurately confirm VHL syndrome in patients with isolated tumours such as sporadic phaeochromocytoma or epididymal papillary cystadenoma. Mutation detection in asymptomatic family members allows regular tumour surveillance and early intervention to improve their prognosis. DNA-based diagnosis can have an important impact on clinical management for VHL families.

Left ventricular reconstruction with no-patch technique: early and late clinical outcomes.
Few studies have evaluated late clinical outcome of no-patch technique in patients with large left ventricular aneurysms. The objectives of this study were to evaluate a no-patch surgical technique to reconstruct the left ventricle in patients with left ventricular aneurysm and to assess early and late clinical outcomes. ⋯ The no-patch technique for left ventricular reconstruction is an effective and simple procedure that can achieve satisfactory early and late clinical outcomes in patients with left ventricular aneurysms.
