ReviewPerioperative Red Blood Cell Transfusion: What We Do Not Know.
Blood transfusion saves lives but may also increase the risk of injury. The objective of this review was to evaluate the possible adverse effects related to transfusion of red blood cell (RBC) concentrates stored for prolonged periods. ⋯ It is still unclear whether transfusion of older RBC has adverse effects, and if so, which factors determine such clinical effects. However, considering the magnitude of transfusion and the widespread medical significance, potential preventive strategies should be considered, especially for the susceptible recipients.

ReviewCurrent and Future Clinical Applications of Zinc Transporter-8 in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus.
To evaluate the utility of zinc transporter-8 (ZnT8) in the improvement of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) diagnosis and prediction, and to explore whether ZnT8 is a potential therapeutic target in T1DM. ⋯ ZnT8 is a novel islet autoantigen with a widely potential for clinical applications in T1DM. However, before the large-scale clinical applications, there are still many problems to be solved.

ReviewStroke-like Migraine Attacks after Radiation Therapy Syndrome.
To summarize the clinical presentation, pathogenesis, neuroimaging, treatment, and outcome of stroke-like migraine attacks after radiation therapy (SMART) syndrome, and to propose diagnostic criteria for this disorder. ⋯ SMART is an extremely rare delayed complication of brain irradiation. However, improvements in cancer survival rates have resulted in a rise in its frequency. Hence, awareness and recognition of the syndrome is important to make a rapid diagnosis and avoid aggressive interventions such as brain biopsy and cerebral angiography.

Review Meta AnalysisHigh Killips Class as a Predictor of New-onset Atrial Fibrillation Following Acute Myocardial Infarction: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Recent observational studies have shown that patients with higher Killips score (>I) have higher risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) following acute myocardial infarction (AMI), while others drew a neutral conclusion. The ultimate predictive value of high Killips class on NOAF remained obscure. ⋯ Killips class >I was associated with the higher opportunity of developing NOAF following AMI.
