U.S. emergency departments visits resulting from poor medication adherence: 2005-07.
To describe characteristics and trends for emergency department visits related to medication nonadherence and to identify associations between patient characteristics and emergency department visits related to medication nonadherence. ⋯ Medication nonadherence is an important problem. Targeting patients at high risk for nonadherence, especially patients with mental illness, may improve medication adherence and prevent future emergency department visits.

Perceptions of the incorporation of health literacy in pharmacy training programs.
To assess pharmacy residents' perceptions regarding the incorporation of health literacy in pharmacy school and pharmacy residency training and to assess confidence while interacting with patients of limited health literacy. ⋯ PGY1 residency programs lag behind the efforts of schools of pharmacy to incorporate the health literacy training essential to encountering patients of limited health literacy. Future studies should assess whether these perceptions reflect true health literacy awareness and management among pharmacy residents.

Factors affecting Medicare Part D beneficiaries' decision to receive comprehensive medication reviews.
To identify factors influencing Medicare Part D beneficiaries' decision to receive pharmacist-provided comprehensive medication reviews (CMRs) and to evaluate their experiences with pharmacist-provided CMRs. ⋯ Patients preferred their usual pharmacy or convenient places to have a CMR. Also, a collaborative pharmacist-physician working relationship would be helpful in providing CMRs. Patients who received CMRs expressed a positive attitude toward and satisfaction with pharmacist-provided services.
