[Headache disorders. Definitions, subtypes, and prevalence rates in Germany].
Headache is a symptom experienced by many individuals throughout life. It is a complex, multidimensional construct that, for the purpose of diagnosis, relies on the subjective symptom descriptions of those affected. The classification of headaches is influenced by the frequency of the respective pain as well as the different pain qualities and their perception. In the classification of headache, a number of different methodological problems arise that influence the estimation of prevalence and incidence rates of single headache types. The aim of this manuscript is (a) to describe and discuss the methodological problems in the assessment and classification of headache in general and single headache disorders in detail and (b) to summarize their frequency in studies of the German adult population. ⋯ Given the high frequency and considerable consequences of headache disorders in Germany, only a few studies report results on the prevalence and/or incidence rates, risk factors, and individual as well as economic consequences of different headache disorders. Methodological problems in the assessment and classification of single headache disorders have contributed to this situation. Further standardization of methods in future studies is necessary.

Review Meta Analysis[Unintentional injuries among children and adolescents in Germany. Data sources and results].
Compared to adults, children and adolescents run a considerably higher risk of suffering unintentional injuries (UI). To prevent UI, detailed knowledge of the overall accident occurrence and the determinants of UI is needed. This article gives an overview of the data sources covering the occurrence of UI among children and adolescents in Germany. ⋯ While UI among children mostly happen at home, road traffic and leisure-time accidents increase in occurrence during adolescence. In Germany, there are numerous initiatives dedicated to the prevention of UI in children and adolescents. The creation of target group-specific prevention measures is complicated by the fact that the methodological approaches of existing data sources differ considerably.

[Accidents and injuries in the EU. Results of the EuroSafe Reports].
Accidents and injuries are a relevant although largely preventable public health problem. Information on the causes of accidents is the basis for accident prevention and product safety. The current report "Injuries in the European Union", edited by EuroSafe, the European Association for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, is a summary of key statistics on accidents and injuries at the EU level. In addition to international data on cause of death, the data of the European Injury Data Base (IDB) in particular are presented. ⋯ The implementation of the IDB has proven to be feasible and useful for the participating countries, especially for data-based accident prevention in the important areas of home, leisure, and sports accidents. In the framework of the EU project JAMIE (2011-2014, Joint Action for Injury Monitoring in Europe), the IDB partners are currently working on further improving the IDB standards and quality criteria as well as the recruitment of further IDB countries. The medium-term goal is to integrate the EU IDB in the Eurostat Statistical System and to put the collection of IDB data on a statutory footing.

[The TraumaRegister DGU® as data source for monitoring severe injuries].
The TraumaRegister DGU® of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (TR-DGU) has collected data on the treatment of severely injured accident victims in Germany since 1993. Due to the current number of more than 600 participating clinics which regularly receive quality comparison reports, these register data are becoming an increasingly more valuable source for healthcare research. ⋯ The TR-DGU is not only a successful instrument for external quality assurance of the treatment of severely injured patients but also an increasingly more valuable source for scientific evaluation within the framework of healthcare research. The introduction of regional trauma networks by the DGU has made a substantial contribution to the comprehensive compilation of severely injured patients and allows increasingly more detailed information on the epidemiology of severe injuries in Germany to be compiled.
