Review Meta AnalysisShort-term exposure to air pollution and morbidity of COPD and asthma in East Asian area: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The association between short-term exposure to air pollution and morbidity of COPD and asthma has been observed in many studies. However, there is a lack of systematic review of the overall risk ratios in East Asian area to provide scientific evidence for health risk assessment. ⋯ Evidence was found that short-term exposure to air pollution was associated with increasing risk of hospital utilization for COPD and asthma in the whole population, the elderly and children, but not in people aged 15-64. Children tended to be more susceptible to the effect of air pollution on asthma morbidity.

Traffic-related air pollution and childhood acute leukemia in Oklahoma.
While many studies have evaluated the association between acute childhood leukemia and environmental factors, knowledge is limited. Ambient air pollution has been classified as a Group 1 carcinogen, but studies have not established whether traffic-related air pollution is associated with leukemia. The goal of our study was to determine if children with acute leukemia had higher odds of exposure to traffic-related air pollution at birth compared to controls. ⋯ Although we observed no association overall between NO2 or road density, this was the first study to observe an elevated odds of exposure to NO2 among children with AML compared to controls suggesting further exploration of traffic-related air pollution and AML is warranted.

Energy saving in WWTP: Daily benchmarking under uncertainty and data availability limitations.
Efficient management of Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTPs) can produce significant environmental and economic benefits. Energy benchmarking can be used to compare WWTPs, identify targets and use these to improve their performance. Different authors have performed benchmark analysis on monthly or yearly basis but their approaches suffer from a time lag between an event, its detection, interpretation and potential actions. ⋯ In this paper, in order to overcome this limitation, the authors have developed a methodology to estimate the required parameters and manage the uncertainty in the estimation. By coupling the parameter estimation with an interval based benchmark approach, the authors propose an effective, fast and reproducible way to manage infrequent inlet measurements. Its use enables benchmarking on a daily basis and prepares the ground for further investigation.
