Experimental animal model studies have shown neuroprotective properties of magnesium. We assessed the relationship between admission magnesium and admission stroke severity and 3-month clinical outcomes in patients with acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). ⋯ Elevated admission serum magnesium level is associated with lower odds of mortality but not poor functional outcome at 3 months in patients with acute ICH.

Dysregulation of miR-34a has been reported for its implication in neuronal development. This study aims to explore the effect and possible mechanism of miR-34a on neuron apoptosis induced by Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). ⋯ MiR-34a can downregulate CD47 expression to activate PI3K/AKT signal pathway, and thus inhibit SCI induced spinal neuron apoptosis.

The effect of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) on global cerebral ischemia remains partially understood. This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effect of sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS, a donor of H2S) post-conditioning and its underlying mechanism in a transient global cerebral ischemia (tGCI) model. ⋯ These results suggested that NaHS post-conditioning can protect hippocampal CA1 neurons from tGCI-induced injury, at least partially, through activation of ERK1/2 signaling.
