To provide a review of the classification, epidemiology, risk factors, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile (C. difficile) infection (CDI) with an emphasis on longterm care. ⋯ CDI is largely iatrogenic, and diagnosis is based on clinical presentation and laboratory tests.
