Validation of a survey tool assessing effectiveness of an educational intervention on the caring behaviors and referral activities of community pharmacists for migraineurs.
Community pharmacists are in an ideal position to ameliorate migraineur under-consulting, under-diagnosis, and under-treatment. Contemporary education/training on developing therapeutic alliances with patients and in advanced pharmacotherapy may further motivate pharmacists to impact the care of migraineurs. ⋯ There are few studies evaluating the role and potential impact community pharmacists can have on patients suffering from migraines or recurrent headaches. While no difference was found between the groups, the internal reliability of the survey questions and the need to address needs of migraineurs warrants tool dissemination and a larger-scale study.

A feasibility study of community pharmacists performing depression screening services.
Depression is one of the largest causes of disease burden globally but can routinely go undetected in primary care. Screening for depression is an effective way to increase early recognition, and there is an opportunity to utilize pharmacists' skills and accessibility to do this. ⋯ Pharmacists are capable of performing screening and risk assessment services for depression and making referrals to appropriate health care professionals when required. Pharmacy based depression screening programs have the potential to increase the early detection of depression which may lead to early intervention, and potentially contribute to easing the enormous disease burden associated with depression.

Exploring the relationship between mental health stigma, knowledge and provision of pharmacy services for consumers with schizophrenia.
Pharmacists' provision of medication counseling and medication review has been shown to improve adherence and resolve drug-related problems. Lack of knowledge of mental health conditions and negative beliefs may act as a barrier to the provision of pharmacy services. It is unclear how pharmacists' knowledge and attitudes impact their provision of pharmacy services. ⋯ Low levels of mental health stigma and high levels of schizophrenia literacy were associated with pharmacists being more willing to provide medication counseling and identify drug-related problems for consumers with schizophrenia. This demonstrates the importance of improving knowledge and stigma surrounding schizophrenia to improve service delivery for consumers taking medications for schizophrenia.
