Review Meta AnalysisSystematic review and metaanalysis of intraperitoneal instillation of local anesthetics for reduction of pain after gynecologic laparoscopy.
We reviewed the effectiveness of intraperitoneal instillation of local anesthetic on pain after gynecologic laparoscopic surgery. Sources included the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, and Ovid MEDLINE In-Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations databases, and abstracts, reference lists, and randomized controlled trial (RCT) registries. ⋯ Pain scores were significantly lower in the groups receiving local anesthesia at 1 to 2 hours (weighted mean difference [WMD], -1.82; 95% confidence interval [CI], -2.55 to -1.08]) and 4 to 6 hours postoperatively (WMD, -2.00; 95% CI, -3.64 to -0.35), but were similar at 24 hours (WMD, -1.43; 95% CI, -1.15 to 0.96). Local analgesia instilled intraperitoneally significantly decreased pain during a 6-hour interval after gynecologic laparoscopy.

Randomized Controlled TrialPreemptive analgesic efficacy of parecoxib vs placebo in infertile women undergoing diagnostic laparoscopy: randomized controlled trial.
To compare the preemptive analgesic efficacy between parecoxib and placebo in infertile women undergoing outpatient diagnostic laparoscopy. ⋯ Preoperative administration of 40 mg parecoxib, compared with placebo, provided significantly superior postoperative pain relief after diagnostic laparoscopy.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of the analgesic effects of oral tramadol and naproxen sodium on pain relief during IUD insertion.
To compare the analgesic efficacy of oral tramadol and naproxen sodium on pain during insertion of an intrauterine device (IUD). ⋯ Prophylactic analgesia using 50 mg tramadol and 550 mg naproxen, delivered orally, can be used to relieve pain during IUD insertion. However, tramadol capsules were found to be more effective than naproxen tablets.

Clinical TrialValue of magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosis of adenomyosis and myomas of the uterus.
To estimate the diagnostic performance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in detection of myomas and adenomyosis of the uterus. ⋯ MRI exhibits a high AUC for the diagnosis of both adenomyosis and myomas. The PPV of MRI in the diagnosis of adenomyosis and myomas of the uterus is high as well. MRI seems to be a useful technique in everyday clinical practice in the diagnostic approach of these common conditions, enabling clinicians to select the most appropriate management.

Comparative StudySmall bowel obstruction after hysterectomy to treat benign disease.
To estimate the incidence of small bowel obstruction (SBO) after hysterectomy performed because of benign indications and to compare the incidence of SBO after laparoscopic, vaginal, and abdominal hysterectomy. ⋯ The incidence of SBO after hysterectomy performed because of benign indications is low. The hysterectomy route does not seem to affect risk of SBO.
