Intra- and interobserver repeatability of the assessment of anteroposterior curvatures of the spine using Saunders digital inclinometer.
According to the requirements of Evidence Based Medicine, every research tool and method should be subjected to reliability evaluation. A variety of inclinometers are used for the assessment of sagittal plane spinal curvatures in clinical practice. The aim of the study was to evaluate the intra- and interobserver repeatability of measurements of the anterior-posterior spinal curvatures taken with Saunders digital inclinometer. ⋯ The assessment of anteroposterior curvatures of the spine by one investigator provided good repeatability and reliability of measurements. Measurements performed by more than one investigator displayed partial repeatability. The value of the observational error should be taken into account in the interpretation of results of measurements performed with the Saunders inclinometer. The assessment of anteroposterior curvatures of the spine should be preceded by a verification of measurement reliability.

Case ReportsReconstruction of chronic patellar tendon rupture with semitendinosus tendon: case report.
Chronic patellar tendon rupture is a rare injury whose treatment poses technical difficulties. Surgical repair is mandatory to restore the extensor mechanism of the knee. Many different surgical methods of patellar tendon reconstruction have been described. ⋯ A semitendinosus tendon graft and the modified Ecker technique were used for the reconstruction of the patellar tendon. Full extension was achieved alongside high patient satisfaction. However, the patient required prolonged intensive rehabilitation.

Immediate and long-term effects of selected physiotherapy methods in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a serious therapeutic problem and it considerably impairs the patients' quality of life. Despite many studies, the effectiveness of conservative treatment is still debatable. This study aimed to evaluate the immediate and long-term effects of conservative treatment involving ultrasound therapy combined with massage and kinesiotherapy for carpal tunnel syndrome. ⋯ Ultrasound therapy combined with massage and kinesiotherapy brings the expected, long-term effects in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Early-onset scoliosis with co-existing thoracic deformity is particularly difficult to treat, with early surgery usually being the only rational solution. Operative correction of the deformed spine and rib cage employs techniques enabling further growth of the structures, an example of which is the Vertical Expandable Prosthetic Titanium Rib (VEPTR), designed to provide dynamic stabilization of the spinal column and the thoracic cage. Our study aimed to present difficulties and complications related to VEPTR-based operative reduction of the spinal and thoracic deformities in the youngest child. ⋯ The specific character of the method makes it liable to a variety of difficulties and complications that may sometimes affect the outcome. Both the authors' experience and published data prove the clinical effectiveness of VEPTR. Nevertheless, it is only a temporary means that cannot disturb the strategic anatomical elements of the spine which are to be involved in subsequent conventional operative procedures. An awareness of the limitations and possible difficulties connected with VEPTR allows for some modifications with which the technique continues to be the most effective sequential treatment of thoracic and spinal deformities in the youngest child.

Our experience with surgical treatment of perinatal brachial plexus palsy--results in different types of lesions.
Perinatal brachial plexus palsies can be divided into upper (C5-C6), upper-middle (C5-C6-C7) and total injuries (C5-Th1). The study aimed to evaluate the results of surgical repair in the different types of palsies. ⋯ 1. While surgical repair may be indicated in brachial plexus injuries at all levels, it is usually inevitable in total and upper-middle palsies. 2. The surgical outcome depends on the extent of baseline damage to the brachial plexus, with the best prognosis in insolated upper palsies.
