Case ReportsFoot drop after percutaneous treatment with radiopaque gelified ethanol (Discogel®).
Sciatica due to a lumbar disc herniation is a frequent symptom, between 13% and 40% of the general population will experience an episode of sciatica during their lives. Different techniques exist to treat this condition. Among them the percutaneous intradiscal Discogel®. ⋯ We hypothesize that the pathogenic mechanism would be the increased intradiscal volume and pressure post-puncture and annulus fibrosus damage, which could produce the disc extrusion. The extrusion of Discogel® material is possible. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of this complication with this product.

Shape-based interpolation method in measuring intracranial volume for pre- and post-operative decompressive craniectomy using open source software.
Intracranial volume (ICV) is an important tool in the management of patients undergoing decompressive craniectomy (DC) surgery. The aim of this study was to validate ICV measurement applying the shape-based interpolation (SBI) method using open source software on computed tomography (CT) images. ⋯ The shape-based interpolation method with 1-in-10 sampling strategy gave comparable results in estimating ICV compared to manual segmentation. Thus, this method could be used in clinical settings for rapid, reliable and repeatable ICV estimations.

ReviewExtradural anterior clinoidectomy in the management of parasellar meningiomas: Analysis of 13 years of experience and literature review.
The extradural anterior clinoidectomy (EAC) is a key microsurgical technique that facilitates the resection of tumors located in the parasellar region. There is currently no consensus regarding the execution of the procedure via extradural or intradural nor scientific evidence that supports its routine use. The purpose of this article is to expose our experience in performing EAC as part of the management of the parasellar meningiomas. ⋯ In our experience, EAC is a safe technique that facilitates the resection of the meningiomas located in the parasellar area, helps to achieve early tumor devascularization, reduces the need for retraction of the cerebral parenchyma and could play a positive role in the preservation of visual function and the appearance of tumor recurrences in the anterior clinoid process (ACP).

[Endonasal endoscopic surgery in pituitary adenomas: Surgical results in a series of 86 consecutive patients].
The endoscopic endonasal approach has become the gold standard for the surgical treatment of pituitary adenomas. ⋯ In terms of surgical quality, our results are similar to those of published series, and demonstrate the efficacy and safety of the endoscopic endonasal approach as the surgical treatment of choice for pituitary adenomas. However, further studies with a higher sample size are necessary to obtain clinically significant results.

Review Case ReportsPersistent extra-axial post-surgical collections and Propionibacterium acnes infection. Presentation of two cases and literature review.
It is common to observe the persistence of extra-axial collections after craniotomies. Most of these disappear in weeks or months but some remain. The onset of focal symptoms or the growth of these persistent collections months or years after surgery may indicate the presence of a chronic and latent infection by germs of low virulence such as Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). ⋯ We must consider P. acnes as an infectious agent of post-surgical collections of long evolution. Atypical presentation and radiological changes may be helpful in diagnosis.
