ReviewSomatic treatments excluding psychopharmacology in obsessive- compulsive disorder: a review.
Somatic treatments other than psychotropic drugs are increasingly used in the patients with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), however there has been little systematic review of them. Therefore, the present review deals with a variety of somatic treatment methods excluding psychotropic drugs. ⋯ Afterwards, the obtained investigations on electroconvusive therapy (ECT), deep brain stimulation (DBS), neurosurgical methods and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) were presented. Although psychopharmacological treatment and psychotherapeutic approaches are primary treatment modalities in the management of OCD, other somatic treatment options seem to be used as alternatives, especially for patients with treatmentresistant OCD.

Despite relative stable and adequately controlled background pain, Breakthrough Cancer Pain (BTcP) is a transient exarcebation of pain that occurs either spontaneously or in relation to a specific predictable trigger. It is characterized by a typical temporal pattern which includes a short onset (generally a few minutes) and a short duration (30-90 minutes). It has a strong influence on quality of life (QoL), including detrimental effects on activities of daily living, sleep, social relationships and enjoyment of life. ⋯ Transmucosal fentanyl, a rapid onset opioid (ROO), is indicated for the treatment of BTcP in patients who are already receiving and are tolerant to opioid therapy for underlying, persistent pain. In order to identify published studies on BTcP and ROOs a Medline search was carried out. The characteristics of the various formulations of transmucosal fentanyl used for BTcP and clinical data published in literature will be described in this review.

ReviewCardiac output by Flotrac/VigileoTM validation trials: are there reliable conclusions?
We reviewed the comparative trials of the Flotrac/VigileoTM versus the thermodilution method, published in the last five years. The results about the agreement between the two methods measuring cardiac output are contrasting. We also noticed that almost the whole pertinent literature include studies conducted without a correct statistical design, particularly about the sample size. For this reason we consider that results of the published studies about the agreement between pulse contour analysis for cardiac output measurement and thermodilution method may be not reliable.

ReviewClinical pharmacology of paliperidone palmitate a parenteral long-acting formulation for the treatment of schizophrenia.
Paliperidone Palmitate is a long-acting intramuscular atypical antipsychotic drug indicated for the acute maintenance treatment of schizophrenia in adults. Its mechanism of action, like all other atypical agents, is attributed to the antagonism of brain dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. ⋯ Current studies for clinical efficacy of paliperidone palmitate for both acute and maintenance treatment and adherence in adults with schizophrenia are discussed. Studies for safety and tolerability are also reviewed.
