Case ReportsDelayed cardiac rupture occurring two months after blunt chest trauma.
We describe a rare case of successful repair of delayed cardiac rupture due to blunt chest trauma; the cardiac rupture occurred 74 days after the trauma. A 75-year-old woman with a history of blunt chest trauma that caused multiple rib fractures underwent an emergent thoracotomy due to left hemothorax. A coin-sized pericardial defect and cardiac rupture on the left ventricle was found to be close to a fractured rib, which was thought to have damaged the myocardium and thus induced time-dependent myocardial degeneration. The cardiac rupture and the pericardial defect did not induce life-threatening cardiac tamponade; however, the cardiac rupture did induce hemothorax, which could be successfully treated.

Case ReportsRudimentary right ventricle to pulmonary artery shunt in the Norwood procedure.
We describe here successful palliative repair of tricuspid atresia, hypoplastic right ventricle, transposition of the great arteries, and hypoplastic aortic arch in a neonate. The repair consisted of the Norwood procedure with a rudimentary right ventricle to pulmonary artery shunt, which was located on the right side of a neo-aorta. This procedure could be a useful adjunct to avoid left ventriculotomy and its subsequent dysfunction.

Case ReportsInfective endocarditis with cerebral mycotic aneurysm: treatment dilemma.
Cerebral mycotic aneurysms are uncommon but severe complications of infective endocarditis. Management of these patients remains controversial. ⋯ The patient underwent an open heart operation 20 days after aneurysm clipping. His postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient continues to be healthy without neurological complications.

Comparative StudyBenefits of video-assisted thoracic surgery for repeated pulmonary metastasectomy.
The use of repeated pulmonary resection for metachronous pulmonary metastasis has increased. We assessed whether video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) produced greater benefits than classic thoracotomy for repeated pulmonary metastasectomy procedures. ⋯ VATS can result in a shortened operating time, reduced intraoperative bleeding, and generally fewer complications compared with repeated classic thoracotomy. VATS is also potentially a curative procedure as it is not inferior to classic thoracotomy in terms of the relapse rate after repeated pulmonary metastasectomy.

Case ReportsScimitar syndrome in an infant with right lung hypoplasia, ventricular septal defect, and severe pulmonary hypertension.
A 5-month-old boy was presented for surgical repair of scimitar syndrome associated with right lung hyperplasia, severe pulmonary hypertension, ventricular septal defect (VSD), and atrial septal defect. The calculated shunt fraction (Qp/Qs) was 3.1:1.0, pulmonary vascular resistance was 4.6, and the perfusion lung scan showed a marked decrease (11%) in right pulmonary blood flow. ⋯ Finally, the interposed azygos vein was anastomosed to the left atrium. Although pulmonary artery pressure was normalized at the 2-year follow-up, cardiac catheterization 6 months after the operation demonstrated right pulmonary vein obstruction.
