It has been reported in different parts of the world that war veterans are more exposed to cardiovascular risk factors. The objective of this study was to establish the risk factors, the cardiometabolic profile and the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in a group of ex-combatants of the Malvinas War (HdeM). ⋯ The HdeM showed an increase in the frequency of risk factors, metabolic syndrome and acute myocardial infarction. It is important to take this increased risk into account in order to maximize cardiovascular prevention strategies in ex-combatants.

Since May 2022, monkeypox cases have been reported in non-endemic countries with different characteristics from the traditional description of the disease, predominantly in men who have sex with men, with possible sexual transmission and with no documentation of mortality to date. We report what would be the first patient diagnosed in Argentina with no travel nexus to countries with viral circulation. Young, bisexual man, on antiretroviral HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, whose presentation was exudative pharyngitis with no other documented aetiology and lymphadenopathy that progressed to necrosis, presence of characteristic asynchronous lesions on the face, neck, abdomen, extremities, and genitals, in a total of no more than 25. ⋯ The finding of the virus in semen, already reported in other publications, is still not enough to confirm the sexual route as a form of transmission. In conclusion: Our case warns about other possible forms of presentation of epidemic monkeypox and the need to increase the level of suspicion for its early detection as a strategy to prevent dissemination and protect vulnerable groups. Even more information is required to determine the sexual transmission of this disease.

We present the case of a 40-year-old male without cardiovascular risk factors, who was admitted to our hospital due to chest pain. The electrocardiogram showed a typical pattern, already described, known as Wellens syndrome type 1 or A, characterized by ST segment elevation <1 mm and biphasic T wave in lead V3. ⋯ The coronary angiography revealed 3 severe lesions: the proximal and middle thirds of the left anterior descending artery and the first diagonal. We highlight the validity of this electrocardiographic pattern, described more than 40 years ago, to identify and stratify patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Gonarthrosis is a highly prevalent disease in older adults. The objective of this research was to identify changes in quadriceps muscle strength and their impact on the functionality of total knee replacement (TKA) operated patients undergoing kinesitherapy at Hospital El Carmen de Maipú (HEC). All TKA operated patients were measured, pre and post intervention, maximum isometric strength (MIF), Time Up and Go, Standing and sitting test, Unipodal support and the WOMAC scale. ⋯ On the other hand, injuries to the non-dominant (left) knee have a 4 times greater chance of stay in treatment in less than 50 days [(OR = 2.71; CI (1.000-16.252)]. There was an increase in MIF of the knee treated post-intervention, in both genders. Functionality increased in men and women, after the intervention.

Global consumption of vegetables and fruits is currently below recommendations, impacting the prevalence of obesity and non-communicable diseases. In addition to environmental factors, mothers' feeding practices influence children's eating patterns. ⋯ Results provide information on home based strategies to promote children's fruit and vegetable intake that do not require complex resources and can be incorporated into community health education programs.
