Factitious thyrotoxicosis is characterized by the intentional or accidental intake of excess thyroid hormones or their derivatives. We describe 6 cases of patients who developed thyrotoxicosis and adverse effects by weight-reducing herbal medicines. ⋯ To make the differential diagnosis between intake of thyroxine (T4) or triiodothyronine (T3) or its derivatives, we must request the measurement of T4 and T3. In case of ingestion of T4, T4 and T3 will be elevated, but in case of ingestion of triodothyronine or its derivatives, T4 will be decreased with elevated T3.

COVID-19 pandemic modified learning conditions in health professions' residences. The objective of the research was to explore Argentinian residents' perceptions regarding training conditions during the first year of pandemic. A descriptive, quali-quantitative study was developed through an online, anonymous questionnaire, with 42 items: 17 closed options and 25 Likert scale from 1 to 5; and 2 open questions. ⋯ They perceived as positive aspects the chance to strengthen bonds between residents and closeness with relatives, and negative aspects the effects on health due to stress and social distancing. In conclusion, the general conditions of training were affected. This leads to rethink the teaching and assessment curricular alternatives, as well as interventions related to the well-being of the residents.

Despite standard thromboprophylaxis, venous thrombosis is common in critically ill patients with COVID-19. The objective of this study was to evaluate deep venous thrombosis (DVT) incidence in patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia with mechanical ventilation requirements under intermediate dose of chemical thromboprophylaxis (1 mg/kg/day of enoxaparin). This was a single-center, descriptive, cross-sectional study of prospectively collected data. ⋯ In 3 cases, DVT was catheter-related (2 in lower limbs and 1 in jugulo-subclavian confluent), 2 died during follow-up due to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) complications without thrombotic events or major bleeding. All thrombotic events were asymptomatic. In our series of patients with moderate/severe COVID-19 ARDS, DVT incidence was 10.9% under thromboprophylaxis with intermediate dose (1 mg/kg/ day) of enoxaparin.

Clear cell "sugar" tumor of the lung is a rare benign tumor arising from perivascular epithelioid cells (PECs). They belong to a group of mesenchymal neoplasms called PEComas. ⋯ We report the case of a 66-year-old man in whom a solitary pulmonary nodule was discovered during oncological staging for an adenocarcinoma of the prostate who underwent an anatomical pulmonary segmentectomy. The final pathology result was a perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (pulmonary PEComa or clear "sugar" cell tumor).

Diffuse idiopathic hyperplasia of neuroendocrine cells is an extremely rare condition. It is a widespread proliferation of neuroendocrine cells, without primary process justifying it. Usually symptomatic in most cases, asymptomatic forms are also described. ⋯ The third patient is asymptomatic and in control. The diffuse neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia represents a diagnostic challenge because of the rarity of this condition. Lung biopsy in patients with multiple, bilateral pulmonary nodules and clinical history of cough and progressive dyspnea should be considered to confirm this entity.
