Case Reports Multicenter StudySevere acute maternal morbidity in rural South Africa.
Our objective was to identify the frequency, causes, and avoidable factors of severe acute maternal morbidity (SAMM) in four non-specialist hospitals in rural South Africa. ⋯ A qualitative case review audit of SAMM in a non-specialist rural setting appears feasible and sustainable, and provides valuable information towards improving deficiencies in maternal care.

To determine the rates of repeated abortion and contraceptive use among unmarried young women seeking an abortion in China. ⋯ The rate of unmarried young women seeking repeated abortions was high in China on 2000. The rate of consistent condom use was low, and the rate of contraceptive failure was higher.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialCesarean section intraoperative blood loss and mode of placental separation.
To investigate whether manual removal of the placenta is associated with significant blood loss compared with spontaneous separation of the placenta during cesarean delivery. ⋯ Manual delivery of the placenta was significantly associated with greater operative blood loss and greater decrease in postoperative hemoglobin levels, but with shorter operative time compared with spontaneous placental separation. No difference in postoperative complications was noted between the groups.
