Comparative StudySubclinical left ventricular dysfunction in preeclamptic women with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction: a 2D speckle-tracking imaging study.
Patients with preeclampsia are at risk for cardiovascular disease. Changes in cardiac function are subtle in preeclampsia and are difficult to quantify with conventional imaging. Strain measurements using speckle-tracking echocardiography have been used to sensitively quantify abnormalities in other disease settings. ⋯ Myocardial strain imaging using speckle tracking is more sensitive than left ventricular ejection fraction to detect differences in left ventricular systolic function in women with and without preeclampsia.

Comparative StudyAssociation of myocardial deformation with outcome in asymptomatic aortic stenosis with normal ejection fraction.
Current guidelines recommend intervention for symptomatic aortic stenosis, but the management of asymptomatic aortic stenosis remains controversial. As left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS) has been shown to predict cardiovascular outcome, we sought to find whether its use could guide the assessment of risk in these patients. ⋯ GLS is associated with outcomes in patients with severe asymptomatic aortic stenosis, incremental to other clinical and echocardiographic variables.

Comparative StudyAnalysis of procedural effects of percutaneous edge-to-edge mitral valve repair by 2D and 3D echocardiography.
Analysis of procedural effects in patients undergoing percutaneous mitral valve repair (PMVR) using the edge-to-edge technique is complex, and common methods to define mitral regurgitation severity based on 2-dimensional (2D) echocardiography are not validated for postprocedural double-orifice mitral valve. This study used 3D transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to determine the functional and morphological effects of PMVR. ⋯ Three dimensional TEE demonstrates significant reduction of regurgitant volume after PMVR. The unique visualization of the mitral valve by 3D TEE allows improved understanding of the morphological and functional changes induced by PMVR.
