Clinical TrialPiriformis muscle syndrome: diagnostic criteria and treatment of a monocentric series of 250 patients.
Piriformis Muscle Syndrome (PMS) is caused by sciatic nerve compression in the infrapiriformis canal. However, the pathology is poorly understood and difficult to diagnose. This study aimed to devise a clinical assessment score for PMS diagnosis and to develop a treatment strategy. ⋯ The proposed evaluation score may facilitate PMS diagnosis and treatment standardisation. Rehabilitation has a major role associated in half of the cases with botulinum toxin injections.

Observational StudyPercutaneous treatment of sciatica caused by a herniated disc: an exploratory study on the use of gaseous discography and Discogel(®) in 79 patients.
Sciatica is a common disease; between 13% and 40% of the general population will experience at least one episode of sciatica due to spinal disc herniation and nerve root irritation. In some specialist centres, percutaneous intradiscal techniques can be applied as an intermediate measure between conservative treatment and surgery, with a view to avoiding the adverse events associated with surgical discectomy. Discogel(®) is a percutaneously implanted medical device for the treatment of lumbar sciatica due to a herniated disc. We performed an open, prospective, observational study in order to (a) determine whether the prior use of air disc manometry could limit the risk of nerve root irritation reportedly associated with nucleolysis and administration of Discogel(®) and (b) investigate the technique's efficacy and safety. ⋯ The favourable outcomes associated with the procedure should now be confirmed in a controlled trial.

Sagittal X-ray parameters in walking or ambulating children with cerebral palsy.
Adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) who walk or ambulate often have an abnormal clinical and radiological spinal profile during pubertal growth compared with adolescents of the same age without neuromotor impairments. Therefore, in the following study, we aimed to conduct a radiological assessment of static data on the lumbar-pelvic-femoral complex in ambulatory children with CP to compare these data with those of an asymptomatic population. The CP population was comprised of 119 children and the asymptomatic population was comprised of 652 children. ⋯ There was also a significant difference in the C7 plumb line. We can say that the CP population is not structurally different from the control population, but that parameters become disturbed during growth. These disturbances should be identified and monitored so that changes can be detected early and progression can be prevented.

Effects of a customized biomechanical therapy on patients with medial compartment knee osteoarthritis.
Previous studies have shown that a customized biomechanical therapy can improve symptoms of knee osteoarthritis. These studies were small and did not compare the improvements across gender, age, BMI or initial severity of knee osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of new biomechanical therapy on the pain, function and quality of life of patients with medial compartment knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ Twelve weeks of a customized biomechanical therapy (AposTherapy) improved symptoms of patients with medial compartment knee osteoarthritis. We recommend that this therapy will be integrated in the management of knee osteoarthritis.

Predicting chronicity in acute back pain: validation of a French translation of the Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Screening Questionnaire.
To establish the predictive validity of a French translation of the Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Screening Questionnaire (OMPSQ), a screening tool assessing the risk of chronicity in patients with back pain. ⋯ The predictive value of the French version of the OMPSQ is reasonably good, in line with the studies in other languages. This questionnaire may be particularly valuable in secondary care settings.
