The efficacy of spa therapy in osteoarthritis (OA) has ever been demonstrated, with a good level of evidence for pain and disability. The effect of a self-management program with spa therapy on physical activity (PA) level has never been demonstrated. ⋯ This study showed the lack of impact of a short self-management program on PA level in addition to 18-day spa therapy for KOA, but both intervention and control groups showed improved PA level.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of single-session dual-tDCS before physical therapy on lower-limb performance in sub-acute stroke patients: A randomized sham-controlled crossover study.
Anodal stimulation increases cortical excitably, whereas cathodal stimulation decreases cortical excitability. Dual transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS; anodal over the lesioned hemisphere, cathodal over the non-lesioned hemisphere) was found to enhance motor learning. The corresponding tDCS-induced changes were reported to reduce the inhibition exerted by the unaffected hemisphere on the affected hemisphere and restore the normal balance of the interhemispheric inhibition. ⋯ Muscle strength was unchanged in both limbs for both real and sham groups. Our results suggest that a single session of dual-tDCS before conventional physical therapy could improve sit-to-stand performance, which appeared to be improved over conventional physical therapy alone. However, strength performance was not increased after the combination treatment.

Randomized Controlled TrialFive-day course of paired associative stimulation fails to improve motor function in stroke patients.
Non-invasive brain stimulation has been studied as a therapeutic adjunct for upper-limb recovery in patients with stroke. One type of stimulation, paired associative stimulation (PAS), has effects on plasticity in both patients and healthy participants. Lasting several hours, these effects are reversible and topographically specific. ⋯ We failed to induce a lasting effect with PAS in the present study. PAS does not seem to be the main method for post-stroke brain stimulation. Perhaps recruitment of patients could be more selective, possibly targeting those with a wide altered ipsilesional corticomotor pathway.

Randomized Controlled TrialContribution of isokinetic muscle strengthening in the rehabilitation of obese subjects.
Our objective was to evaluate the specific effect of isokinetic muscle strength enhancement in the rehabilitation of obese subjects by comparing two groups (isokinetic muscle exercising associated with aerobic exercising or only aerobic exercising). ⋯ Isokinetic muscle strengthening increases the effects of aerobic exercising in the obese by improving muscle strength, increasing lean body mass and reducing body fat.

Randomized Controlled TrialLong-term sensorimotor and therapeutical effects of a mild regime of prism adaptation in spatial neglect. A double-blind RCT essay.
Spatial neglect (SN) is commonly associated with poor functional outcome. Adaptation to a rightward optical deviation of vision has been shown to benefit to SN rehabilitation. The neurophysiological foundations and the optimal modalities of prism adaptation (PA) therapy however remain to be validated. ⋯ These sensory-motor effects helped to clarify the action mechanisms of PA on SN. At the conclusion of the 6-month follow-up, the two groups showed similar improvement, indicating that a weekly PA session over 4 weeks was not sufficient to produce long-term functional benefit. This improvement was correlated with the evolution of visual straight-ahead, which can be proposed as a marker for patients outcome.
