Assessing hepatic functional reserve before hepatectomy is beneficial to reduce the incidence of posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). This study aimed to compare the ability of the Child-Pugh score, model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score, and retention test at 15 minutes (indocyanine green [ICG]-R15) to assess hepatic functional reserve. ⋯ ICG-R15 is more accurate than the Child-Pugh score and MELD score in predicting hepatic functional reserve before hepatectomy.

Several serum based-markers and ratios have been investigated for their prognostic value in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). This cohort study aimed to combine these into a novel prognostic scoring system. ⋯ Combining NAR and Ca19-9 into a prognostic score allows stratification of unresectable PDAC patients into groups with significantly different overall survival.

A comparison study of the transoral and bilateral axillo-breast approaches in robotic thyroidectomy.
Transoral robotic thyroidectomy (TORT) is a new remote access approach to avoid cervical incision. The purpose of this study is to compare two approaches used to avoid cervical incision: transoral approach and bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) in robotic thyroidectomy. ⋯ Our study showed that TORT had less postoperative pain and a greater cosmetic satisfaction than the BABA. There were no significant differences in the postoperative surgical results between the two groups. TORT was comparable to the BABA in outcome with higher cosmetic satisfaction and less pain.

Lymphedema is caused by insufficient lymphatic drainage leading to abnormal accumulation of interstitial fluid within soft tissues. Lympho-venous anastomosis (LVA), as a surgical option for selected patients, is widely applied. Through preoperative localization of functional lymphatics with indocyanine green, real time visualization of functioning lymphatic vessels is possible. This examination is time consuming and operator dependant and is not suitable to differentiate the ratio of fat hypertrophy to liquid edema. We investigated whether MR lymphangiography is accurate for imaging functional lymphatics and adjacent veins in arms. Furthermore, we investigated the accuracy and predictability of preoperative mapping for the feasibility of performing LVA and the preoperative decision making in lymphedema surgery. ⋯ MR lymphangiography is an accurate and reproducible method for imaging and mapping of lymphatic channels in the lymphedemateous limb.

Recurrent laryngeal/hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LHSCC) is commonly associated with poor survival outcomes. We evaluated the prognostic role of 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18 F-FDG PET/CT) parameters quantitatively measured in patients who underwent salvage treatments for recurrent LHSCC. ⋯ 18 F-FDG PET/CT can be useful in predicting postsalvage recurrence and survival in patients with recurrent LHSCC.
