We reviewed medico-legal cases related to extremity sarcoma malpractice in order to recognize those factors most commonly instigating sarcoma litigation. ⋯ Reported medico-legal claims involving sarcoma care continue to rise, with mean indemnity payments approaching 10 times that for other reported medical/surgical specialties. Primary care and orthopaedic specialties are the most commonly named physician defendants, citing a delay in diagnosis. This suggests further education in the front line diagnosis and management of sarcomas is needed.

The American Society of Peritoneal Surface Malignancies evaluation of HIPEC with Mitomycin C versus Oxaliplatin in 539 patients with colon cancer undergoing a complete cytoreductive surgery.
Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are gaining acceptance as treatment for selected patients with colorectal cancer with peritoneal carcinomatosis (CRCPC). Tremendous variations exist in the HIPEC delivery. ⋯ These data suggest that MMC might be a better agent for HIPEC delivery than Oxaliplatin in patients with CRCPC, favorable histologies and low burden of disease (PSDSS I/II) undergoing complete cytoreduction. Prospective studies are warranted, which stratify patients by their PSDSS and randomize them to HIPEC with MMC vs. Oxaliplatin.

To evaluate the usefulness of metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) measured by pretreatment fluorine 18-fluorodeoxyglucose ((18) F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) as predictors of clinical outcome in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC). ⋯ MTV and TLG measured by pretreatment (18) F-FDG PET/CT may be useful in predicting the clinical outcomes of HPSCC patients undergoing radiotherapy.

The benefit of Sorafenib is not well described in patients with peritoneal hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Although cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) have shown favorable outcomes in certain malignancies, their role in peritoneal HCC remains unknown. We present a series of patients with peritoneal HCC treated with CRS +/- HIPEC and evaluate their clinicopathologic characteristics and outcomes. ⋯ Treatment of peritoneal HCC remains challenging and survival is poor. In well-selected candidates, however, CRS +/- HIPEC may prolong survival compared to systemic therapy alone in patients with peritoneal HCC.

Breast cancer incidence may be increasing in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). This study estimates the prevalence of breast masses in Rwanda (RW) and Sierra Leone (SL) and identifies barriers to care for women with breast masses. only. ⋯ For women in RW and SL, minimal education, poverty, and reliance on traditional healers are barriers to medical care for breast masses. Public health programs to increase awareness and decrease barriers are necessary to lower breast cancer mortality rates in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC).
