The purpose of this study was to identify and characterize casualties hospitalized with assault (non-terror) related gunshot wounds (GSW) in Israel as a basis for determining the incidence, trends and at-risk population groups. ⋯ This study establishes that during the past decade in Israel, not only has there been a continuous increase in hospitalizations due to GSW, but also Arabs are at great risk of such related hospitalizations. Preventive strategies targeting at-risk groups are crucial for minimizing morbidity and mortality related to GSW in Israel.

Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) is a non-invasive treatment modality for delayed union or non-union of acute fractures. We aimed to assess the current use of LIPUS at a national level in the United Kingdom, why and how clinicians use it, what treatment protocols are followed, and what the current perceptions are on this technology. ⋯ LIPUS technology may have a significant role to play in the treatment of orthopaedic fracture related pathology. Regular users perceived the technology to be cost-effective and efficacious. Further research should standardize treatment protocols and aim to establish a national LIPUS registry.

Postoperative radial nerve palsy (RNP) is a well-known complication of nonunion reconstruction of the humerus. The purpose of the current study is to determine if the surgical approach for nonunion reconstruction of the humerus influences the rate of postoperative radial nerve palsy. ⋯ Our data suggests that the lateral paratricipital exposure decreases the risk of radial nerve injury with nonunion reconstruction of the humerus. The lateral paratricipital exposure offers the benefit of radial nerve exploration, decompression, neurolysis and protection prior to fracture manipulation and instrumentation. This study shows conventional approaches may predispose patients to a high rate of postoperative RNP, similar to that in the literature.

Gaps remain in our understanding on how COVID19 affects trends in pediatric trauma, the leading cause of mortality and morbidity during childhood and adolescence. ⋯ This analysis provides insight into how the COVID19 pandemic has affected high acuity trauma in an inner-city pediatric population. Findings may be used to guide public health measures on safety and injury prevention as the pandemic continues.

Numerous studies have detailed the potential benefits of inpatient geriatric rehabilitation for older adults with hip fractures. However, data regarding effect of fracture type (femoral neck, intertrochanteric, or subtrochanteric) on rehabilitation outcomes are limited. This study assessed whether the anatomical type of proximal hip fracture affects rehabilitation outcomes among disabled older adults. ⋯ Patients with femoral neck fracture have better motor ability than do those with intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures, which were retained throughout the course of rehabilitation; yet, the level of improvement remained similar. Clinicians should be aware of such differences in functional ability when discussing goals of care with older adults with hip fractures and consider them when implementing individual rehabilitation programs .
