The objective of this study was to quantitatively investigate the relationship between cerebral atrophy and the risk of injury in elderly individuals. To achieve this, a sophisticated computational biomechanics approach utilizing finite element analysis was employed to simulate the mechanical behavior of the brain and skull under various conditions. In addition, particular emphasis was placed on understanding the role of cerebral bridging veins (BVs) and their mechanical properties at different ages in the occurrence of head injuries. ⋯ To establish a truly safe zone, it is imperative to further decrease the intensity of the impact. This investigation represents a significant step forward in our understanding of the complex interplay between cerebral atrophy, the mechanical properties of BVs at different age, and the risk of head injury in the elderly. Through continued research in this field, we can strive to improve the quality of care, enhance prevention strategies, and ultimately enhance the well-being and safety of the elderly population.

A 49yo male is involved in a fall while skiing. He was brought off the ski hill and was found to have suffered a closed fracture of the left midshaft humerus. Distal neurovascular exam was normal. ⋯ He is Right hand dominant. SOCIAL HISTORY: married with one child and works as an equipment operator for a crane company; he is a social drinker and smokes 1pack per day for 30 years. Has a history of using some recreational drugs but none for 10 years.

The large animal-related injuries are emerging major trauma but remain underestimated public health problem worldwide. We aimed to determine the incidence, clinical characteristics, mechanisms and patterns of horse and camel-related injuries (HCRIs) in a Middle Eastern country. ⋯ This study reveals that HCRIs predominantly affect young adult males and may involve serious injuries, exhibit distinct injury patterns, however, it is associated with low mortality. Preventive measures need to be revisited.

Falls are a significant public health issue in aging societies. This study aimed to examine the temporal, seasonal, and spatial patterns in fall-related mortality in Japan, and to investigate the potential factors associated with fall-related mortality. ⋯ Fall-related mortality among Japanese elderly people has remained unchanged in recent years. In addition, seasonal and spatial patterns were also observed, and it was found that demographic data and healthcare resources in the prefectures affected fall-related mortality rates. Appropriate prevention measures of fall-related deaths should be considered according to the region-specific characteristics and issues.
