Pulmonary Hypertension Posters ISESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; OMIM 178600) is a progressive vascular disorder characterized by pulmonary vascular resistance increase, vascular remodelling and right heart failure. In pulmonary arteriolar smooth muscle cells (PASMC), canonical TRP channels (TRPC) are involved in agonist-mediated pulmonary vasoconstriction and mitogen-mediated cell proliferation. TRPC6 is an isoform and a critical contributor to the elevated [Ca2+]cyt in PAH PASMC. ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Guillermo Pousada, Adolfo Baloira, Carlos Vilariño, Diana ValverdeNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

PleuralSESSION TYPE: Slide PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 04:15 PM - 05:15 PMPURPOSE: Prolonged pulmonary air leaks (PAL), after lung surgery or any causes of pneumothorax, are a source of significant morbidity and resource utilization. Usual approaches include prolonged thoracostomy tube drainage, pleurodesis or open surgical repair. Bronchoscopic techniques using various agents and devices have been essayed but with only anecdotal benefits reported. The use of endobronchial valves (EBV) is a minimal invasive method that may be effective for the treatment of a PAL. ⋯ Treatment of PALDISCLOSURE: The following authors have nothing to disclose: Aldo Torracchi, Rosa Cordovilla, Gonzalo Varela Simó, Marcelo Fernando Jiménez López, Nuria María Novoa Valentín, Maria Rodríguez, María Teresa Gómez Hernández, Jose Luis ArandaNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Cancer Case Report Posters IISESSION TYPE: Case Report PosterPRESENTED ON: Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMINTRODUCTION: Bone is the third most common site for metastatic disease. However, the patella, for its poor vascular supply, is a rare place for metastasis, with only a few reports in the literature, mainly from breast and lung tumors. ⋯ Despite of being rare, distant neoplasms should be in the differential diagnosis of a common orthopedic symptom, as anterior knee pain.Reference #1: Wu B, Xiu Y, Jiang L, Shi H.; SPECT/CT imaging of patella metastasis from a squamous carcinoma of the lung; Clin Nucl Med. 2013 Feb; 38(2):125-7DISCLOSURE: The following authors have nothing to disclose: Marta Sousa, Vitor Melo, Eloisa Silva, Jorge Vale, João Silva, Bárbara Rodrigues, António TorresNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Pediatric PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is frequently used in pediatric intensive care units for patients requiring an escalated level of respiratory support. Recent literature suggests that utilizing NIV in acute respiratory failure may prevent tracheal intubation, and also promotes early extubation in specific patient populations. However, there is little data available regarding complications associated with NIV in pediatric patients. We present a case series of five pediatric patients that developed pneumothorax while on the RAM cannula. ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Beth Johnson, Gwenyth FischerNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.
