Limited existing data suggest that the novel COVID-19 may increase risk of VTE, but information from large, ethnically diverse populations with appropriate control participants is lacking. ⋯ Among ethnically diverse hospitalized adults, COVID-19 infection increased the risk of VTE, and selected patient characteristics were associated with higher thromboembolic risk in the setting of COVID-19.

A randomized trial of Mycobacterium w in severe presumed Gram-negative sepsis (MIST).
Mycobacterium w (Mw), an immunomodulator, has been shown to resolve early organ failure in severe sepsis. ⋯ The use of Mw was associated with a significant reduction in mortality in patients with severe presumed gram-negative sepsis. Further studies are required to confirm our findings.

Outpatient Management of Patients With COVID-19: Multicenter Prospective Validation of the HOME-CoV Rule to safely discharge patients.
The Hospitalization or Outpatient Management of Patients With SARS-CoV-2 Infection (HOME-CoV) rule is a checklist of eligibility criteria for home treatment of patients with COVID-19, defined using a Delphi method. ⋯ A large proportion of patients treated in the ED with probable or confirmed COVID-19 have a negative HOME-CoV rule finding and can be treated safely at home with a very low risk of complications.
