Infectious Disease Case Report Posters ISESSION TYPE: Case Report PosterPRESENTED ON: Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMINTRODUCTION: The Milwaukee Protocol was used for a 24 year-old male U.S. soldier who was diagnosed with rabies after being bit by a feral dog in Afghanistan. He did not receive effective post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for rabies however [1]. ⋯ Our case highlights the first time ECMO was used in rabies. Also, it exemplifies another failed case of the Milwaukee Protocol. Given the lack of efficacy, the protocol should not be used for rabies. A better understanding of rabies pathogenesis is needed in order to develop novel therapies.Reference #1: Jackson AC. Current and future approaches to the therapy of human rabies. OSA PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: Home single-channel nasal pressure (HNP) may be an alternative to polysomnography (PSG) for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) diagnosis but no cost studies have been carried out. Automatic scoring is simpler but generally less effective than manual scoring. Objectives: To determine the diagnostic efficacy and cost of both scorings (automatic and manual) compared with PSG, taking as a polysomnographic OSA diagnosis a clinical-epidemiological apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) cut-off point (≥5) and a clinical-therapeutic AHI cut-off point (≥15). ⋯ The following authors have nothing to disclose: Juan F. ILD Case Report Posters ISESSION TYPE: Case Report PosterPRESENTED ON: Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMINTRODUCTION: Amyloidosis is the abnormal formation of proteins, amyloid fibrins. It is characterised by extracellular deposition in various organs. Pulmonary amyloidosis is rare and can present in the forms of laryngeal, tracheobronchial, pulmonary and mediastinal lymph node disease (1). We present a case of nodular pulmonary amyloidosis in a patient with MCTD. ⋯ Pulmonary amyloidosis is a rare complication of MCTD. Though radiological features can be distinguishing, tissue diagnosis is still the gold standard.Reference #1: Rajagola S, Singh N, Gupta K et al. SleepSESSION TYPE: Slide PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Monday, March 24, 2014 at 10:45 AM - 11:45 AMPURPOSE: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is now considered as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular (CV) disease. Although uric acid is increasingly being implicated in CV morbidity and mortality, no study attempted to determine independent role of uric acid in CV morbidity of OSA patients. We aimed to assess the role of serum uric acid as a potential mechanism of CV morbidity in a nonselected cohort of OSA patients. ⋯ Richard Johnson: Grant monies (from sources other than industry): NIH The following authors have nothing to disclose: Asiye Kanbay, Handan Inonu, Yalcin Solak, Abdulsamet Erden, Emine Uslu, Sevgi Yuksel, Mehmet Ozturk, Kim McFann, Mehmet KanbayNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.

Cancer Case Report Posters ISESSION TYPE: Case Report PosterPRESENTED ON: Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: Pilomatrixomas occur most often in the first 2 decades of life.(3)The recuency of pilomatrixoma was 1.04% of the all benign skin lesions.(4)There appears to be a 3:2 female:male incidence ratio, with Caucasians being the most affected group. The most common location of tumor is in the head and neck region. The prognosis is typically good, and the treatment of choice is surgical removal. We report a interestng case of an pilomatrixoma of the upper chest.
