Validation of PROMIS-29 domain scores among adult burn survivors: A National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research Burn Model System Study.
Patient-reported outcomes are important for understanding recovery after burn injury, benchmarking service delivery and measuring the impact of interventions. Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS)-29 domains have been validated for use among diverse populations though not among burn survivors. The purpose of this study was to examine validity and reliability of PROMIS-29 scores in this population. ⋯ Diagnostic Test or Criteria, level III.

The Interaction Between Per-admission β-Blocker Therapy, The Revised Cardiac Risk Index, and Mortality in Geriatric Hip Fracture Patients.
An association between β-blocker (BB) therapy and a reduced risk of major cardiac events and mortality in patients undergoing surgery for hip fractures has previously been demonstrated. Furthermore, a relationship between an increased Revised Cardiac Risk Index (RCRI) score and a higher risk of postoperative mortality has also been detected. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the interaction between BB therapy and RCRI in relation to 30-day postoperative mortality in geriatric patients after hip fracture surgery. ⋯ Therapeutic/care management, level II.

Intercostal nerve cryoablation during surgical stabilization of rib fractures.
Intercostal nerve cryoablation (IC) offers potential for targeted and durable analgesia for patients with traumatic rib fractures. Our pilot study aimed to investigate thoracoscopic IC's safety, feasibility, and preliminary efficacy for patients undergoing surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF). We hypothesized that concurrent surgical stabilization of rib fractures and intercostal nerve cryoablation (SSRF-IC) is a safe and feasible procedure without immediate or long-term complications. ⋯ Therapeutic, Level V.

Pediatric surgical rib fixation: A collected case series of a rare entity.
Rib fractures are uncommon in children and are markers of extreme traumatic force from high-energy or nonaccidental etiology. Traditional care includes nonoperative management, with analgesia, ventilator support, and pulmonary physiotherapy. Surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRFs) has been associated with improved outcomes in adults. In children, SSRF is performed and its role remains unclear, with data only available from case reports. We created a collected case series of published pediatric SSRF cases, with the aim to provide a descriptive summary of the existing data. ⋯ Collected case series, level V.

Randomized Controlled TrialA randomized clinical trial of single dose liposomal bupivacaine versus indwelling analgesic catheter in patients undergoing surgical stabilization of rib fractures.
Locoregional analgesia (LRA) remains underused in patients with chest wall injuries. Surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF) offers an opportunity to deliver surgeon-directed LRA under direct visualization at the site of surgical intervention. We hypothesized that a single-dose liposomal bupivacaine (LB) intercostal nerve block provides comparable analgesia to an indwelling, peripheral nerve plane analgesic catheter with continuous bupivacaine infusion (IC), each placed during SSRF. ⋯ Therapeutic, level II.
