Randomized Controlled TrialAnalgesic and adjuvant anesthetic effect of submucosal tramadol after mandibular third molar surgery.
The aim of this study was to assess analgesic and adjuvant anesthetic effects of submucosal tramadol after third molar extraction. ⋯ Submucosal tramadol injection after oral surgery improved postoperative analgesia, but did not extend anesthetic action duration.

Review Case ReportsTraumatic pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery: case report and review of the literature.
Pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery is an uncommon complication of a blunt trauma. It usually presents as a pulsating mass in the frontotemporal area a few weeks after the injury. ⋯ The treatment of choice is the surgical resection of the pseudoaneurysm and ligation of the vessels. We report a case of a pseudoaneurysm of the frontal branch of the superficial temporal artery and review the literature.

Can the neurovascular compression volume of the trigeminal nerve on magnetic resonance cisternography predict the success of local anesthetic block after initial treatment by the carbamazepine?
Whether NVC volume on magnetic resonance (MR) cisternography might be related to the success of local anesthetic block by tetracaine (TNB) as an additional treatment after carbamazepine (CBZ) treatments in patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN) was evaluated. ⋯ The present results suggest that the success of CBZ as initial treatment, but not NVC volume on MR cisternography, may be a significant predictor of the success of TNB as additional therapy in patients with TN.

Randomized Controlled TrialContingent electrical stimulation inhibits jaw muscle activity during sleep but not pain intensity or masticatory muscle pressure pain threshold in self-reported bruxers: a pilot study.
This study investigated the effect of contingent electrical stimulation (CES) on present pain intensity (PI), pressure pain threshold (PPT), and electromyographic events per hour of sleep (EMG/h) on probable bruxers with masticatory myofascial pain. ⋯ CES could reduce EMG activity associated with sleep bruxism in patients with masticatory myofascial pain but did not influence perceived pain.

Case ReportsSurgery-first approach on patients with temporomandibular joint disease by intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy.
Orthognathic surgery followed by postsurgical orthodontics without presurgical orthodontic treatment, known as the surgery-first approach (SFA), has become favored recently. The advantages of this surgical approach include total treatment time reduction, psychological benefit from a limited duration of unesthetic orthodontic appliances, and a more effective orthodontic movement of the dentition postoperatively through a regional acceleratory phenomenon. SFA has been previously described in the literature as a surgical technique with Le Fort I osteotomy and sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO), which helps maintain postoperative occlusion with rigid fixation; however, patients with temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) are better candidates for the intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) surgical technique instead of SSRO. The authors report 2 cases with excellent surgical outcomes and resolution of TMD symptoms on patients with mandibular prognathism via SFA using IVRO technique.
