Observational Study
Contraceptive discontinuation and pregnancy postabortion in Nepal: a longitudinal cohort study.
To examine postabortion contraceptive discontinuation and pregnancy in Nepal, where abortion was decriminalized in 2002. ⋯ Initiation of modern contraception was high postabortion; however, 1-year discontinuation was high for the condom, pill and injectable, the methods most commonly used. Rates for intrauterine devices and implants were low. Results support efforts to facilitate patient knowledge and access to the full range of contraceptives, including long-acting reversible methods.

Prophylactic ibuprofen does not improve pain with IUD insertion: a randomized trial.
To evaluate if ibuprofen 800mg reduces pain with intrauterine device (IUD) insertion among U.S. women. ⋯ Administration of ibuprofen 800mg prior to IUD insertion does not reduce pain associated with the procedure for U.S. women. Overall, nulliparous women report more pain with IUD insertion than multiparous women.

Over 15 million adolescents, many at high risk for pregnancy, use emergency departments (EDs) in the United States annually, but little is known regarding reasons for failure to use contraceptives in this population. The purpose of this study was to identify the barriers to and enablers of contraceptive use among adolescent females using the ED and determine their interest in an ED-based pregnancy prevention intervention. ⋯ Adolescents who visit the emergency department (ED) identify contraceptive side effects, mistrust in contraceptives, limited access, pregnancy ambivalence and partner pregnancy desires as barriers to hormonal contraception use. They expressed interest in an ED-based intervention to prevent adolescent pregnancy; such an intervention could target these themes to maximize effectiveness.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Nitrous oxide for pain management of first trimester surgical abortion -- a randomized controlled pilot study.
The objective was to determine feasibility of a study comparing mean pain scores between women randomized to nitrous oxide/oxygen (NO) versus oxygen+oral analgesics for trimester surgical abortion. ⋯ The majority of eligible women agreed to participate in this study evaluating an uncommon pain control intervention.

Young adults' sources of contraceptive information: variations based on demographic characteristics and sexual risk behaviors.
Sexual information sources used by young adults can influence their contraceptive knowledge and behaviors, yet little is known about sources most frequently used by young adults, especially by groups with histories of sexual risk involvement. ⋯ Young adults' use of specific contraceptive information sources can vary based on their demographic characteristics and sexual risk involvement. Future research should identify better strategies to connect young adults, especially young males, with sexual risk histories to more reliable sources of information.
