Microsurgical resection, stereotactic aspiration, endoscopically assisted microsurgical resection, and ventriculoperitoneal shunt have been the treatment options for colloid cysts of the third ventricle. Recently, an endoscopic approach has been recognized as an effective alternative to open surgery. There is suspicion about the long-term recurrence rate and about obtaining complete removal of cyst. ⋯ Endoscopic excision of a colloid cyst is an effective and safe alternate method. Although the follow-up time was short, residual cyst wall remained asymptomatic without any evidence of growth after subtotal excision and coagulation of wall.

Comparative StudyALIF versus TLIF for post-discectomy syndrome.
To evaluate whether anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) is superior to transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) in cases of post-discectomy syndrome (PDS). ⋯ Both ALIF and TLIF techniques can be applied for PDS with equally good results. The technical advantages of ALIF have to be balanced with the additional morbidity and operation time owed to the additional approach. ALIF might be associated with a lower incidence of adjacent level disease compared with TLIF.

Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy and annuloplasty for lumbar disc herniation at the low two contiguous levels: single-portal, double surgeries.
Technical case report. ⋯ Transforaminal PELDA to treat two levels of LDH through a single portal could be considered as one of the minimally invasive treatment modalities that avoids conventional open surgery.

Comparative StudyLaparoscopic implantation of distal peritoneal ventriculoperitoneal shunt catheter: a comparative study.
Ventriculoperitoneal shunts (VPS) are a common treatment for hydrocephalus. Placement of the distal abdominal catheter can be difficult in the setting of advanced age, previous abdominal surgeries, obesity, or chronic illnesses. At our institute, complex patients are treated using a multidisciplinary team of a neurosurgeon and a laparoscopic surgeon. We evaluated the influence on prognosis of a laparoscopically assisted VPS placement using a single-port technique as compared with the conventional mini-laparotomy approach. ⋯ The outcome of elderly patients, patients with chronic diseases and obesity, and patients who underwent previous abdominal or shunt operations equals the outcome of young, otherwise healthy patients, if the laparoscopic single-port technique for distal catheter placement during VPS procedure is used. The laparoscopic technique reduces surgical complications.

Case ReportsEndovascular treatment of ruptured distal posterior inferior cerebellar artery aneurysm. Report of two exemplary cases and retrospective analysis of 11 cases.
Although endovascular therapy for intracranial aneurysms has recently started to replace surgical treatment and literature regarding endovascular therapy's advantages and disadvantages is being published, literature concerning the endovascular treatment of distal posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) aneurysms specifically limited to rupture are lacking. We describe the clinical characteristics of ruptured distal PICA aneurysms, their clinical outcomes, and the strategies in which endovascular treatment are used. ⋯ The present data suggest that endovascular treatment for ruptured distal PICA aneurysms is a safe and effective treatment modality under an elaborate treatment plan.
