Clinical TrialLymphoscintigraphy for differential diagnosis of peripheral edema: diagnostic yield of different scintigraphic patterns.
Edema of the limbs is a common reason for medical consultation, for which the lymphoscintigraphy is considered to be a reliable method for its differential diagnosis. ⋯ The lymphoscintigraphy had high diagnostic yield, allowing early treatment of lymphœdema. The dermal backflow and asymmetry in inguinal/axillary nodes had the greatest diagnostic accuracy. Evaluation of intermediate lymph nodes and visualization of collateral pathways contributed little to improving the diagnosis.

Case ReportsSPECT-CT in the localization of an ectopic retropharyngeal parathyroid adenoma as a cause for persistent primary hyperparathyroidism.
A common cause for surgical failure of primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is the non-detection of an ectopic adenoma during the intervention. We present a case of a patient with pHPT in whom an ectopic gland was found in the right retropharyngeal space by means of a double phase (99m)Tc-methoxy-isobutyl-isonitrile ((99m)Tc-MIBI) scintigraphy and early SPECT-CT after several surgeries and imaging tests. The addition of a tomography to the planar scintigraphy increases its sensitivity and improves pathological parathyroid glands localization. The hybrid imaging is sometimes essential to obtain surgical success, as in the case of ectopic adenomas.

Comparative StudyUtility of low dose (18)F-FDG PET-CT in patients with suspected colorectal carcinoma recurrence in conventional diagnostic methods.
To evaluate the efficacy of (18)F-FDG PET-CT in the diagnosis of recurrence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in patients with elevated values of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and/or signs of recurrence in the multidetector CT (MDCT), and to demonstrate that good results can be obtained applying the ALARA principles. ⋯ Applying a low dose, the (18)F-FDG PET-CT has high diagnostic performance in patients with suspicion of CRC, approaching in a higher grade the ALARA criteria.

[Evaluation of efficacy and clinical impact of 18F-FDG-PET in the diagnosis of recurrent medullary thyroid cancer with increased calcitonin and negative imaging test].
To evaluate the efficacy and clinical impact of the FDG-PET in the diagnosis of suspicion of recurrence of medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) in patients with elevated serum calcitonin and negative imaging test. ⋯ In patients with MTC and suspected recurrence with elevated calcitonin and negative imaging test, the FDG is the best test for the diagnosis of occult recurrence in MTC with elevated calcitonin and negative imaging techniques with elevated clinical impact. It facilitates the therapeutic management of the patients with MTC recurrence, and should be included in the diagnosis algorithm in these patients.
