Case ReportsFDG PET/CT appearance of multicentric Castleman's disease mimicking lymphoma.
We report a case of a multicentric form of Castleman's disease with multiple lymph nodes showing intense FDG uptake on whole body scan mimicking non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. In this report, the patient had multiple cervical, mediastinal, hilar, retroperitoneal and abnormal lymph nodes in the groin. (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography was performed before tissue sampling. (18)F-FDG/PET demonstrated multiple areas of increased uptake in cervical, mediastinal, hilar, retroperitoneal and groin lymph nodes, suggesting a generalized disease of the lymphatic system including non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. ⋯ The histological diagnosis was multicentric plasma cell variant of Castleman's disease. (18)F fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography scan helped to identify the lymph nodes involved throughout the whole body, but did not help to differentiate non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The clinical conclusions and PET/CT findings are described in this report.

Clinical TrialSentinel lymph node biopsy in patients with operable breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
To evaluate the accuracy of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in operable breast cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). ⋯ SLN biopsy after NAC can predict the axillary status with a high accuracy in patients with breast cancer, avoiding unnecessary ALND.

Is a selective brain (18)F-FDG PET/CT study profitable in patients with small cell lung cancer?
To evaluate the diagnostic yield of a selective brain (18)F-FDG PET/CT in neurologically asymptomatic patients with small cell lung cancer. ⋯ Hypometabolic areas in the cerebral parenchyma are frequently associated to metastatic lesions in patients with small cell lung cancer. The selective brain PET/CT in these patients allows correct staging and early treatment of unsuspected metastasis.

Does hyperglycemia affect the diagnostic value of 18F-FDG PET/CT?
Net cellular uptake of (18)F-FDG is adversely affected by elevated plasma glucose levels. The purpose of our study was to investigate the influence of hyperglycemic state at the time of (18)F-FDG injection on the diagnostic accuracy of (18)F-FDG PET/CT. ⋯ Our study suggests that (18)F-FDG accumulation of malignant lesions remains sufficiently high for reliable qualitative clinical diagnosis in chronic and acute hyperglycemic states. However, regarding the discordant and inconclusive results of the available reports and the remarkable concerns with reference to the adverse effects of elevated plasma glucose levels on the diagnostic accuracy of (18)F-FDG PET/CT scans, further direct clues seems to be required and should be provided by future studies.

The role of FDG-PET/CT in ovarian cancer patients with high tumor markers or suspicious lesion on contrast-enhanced CT in evaluation of recurrence and/or in determination of intraabdominal metastases.
This retrospective study was designed to investigate the role of fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) in determination of recurrence and/or intraabdominal metastasis in patients with ovarian cancer having increased tumor markers or suspicious lesion detected by a contrast-enhanced abdominal CT (ceCT). ⋯ PET/CT is found as a beneficial method for detection of the recurrence, in patients with increased serum CA 125 level and negative CT findings or with normal CA 125 level and recurrence detected by CT which was performed due to clinical symptoms.
