Randomized Controlled TrialEarly-phase pharmacokinetics of enteral and parenteral nimodipine in patients with acute subarachnoid haemorrhage - a pilot study.
The pharmacokinetics of nimodipine following enteral administration in the early phase after subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) has not been described. If a sufficient absorption could be achieved with enterally administered nimodipine, this would be more feasible dosage form and result in a significant reduction in pharmaceutical costs given that the parenteral formulation of nimodipine currently used is tenfold more expensive than the enteral formulation. ⋯ This pilot study indicates that the rate and extent of nimodipine absorption following enteral administration in some acute SAH patients could be negligible, and this may particularly be the case in patients with a decreased level of consciousness.

Multicenter StudyAge and sex-related differences in dose-dependent hemodynamic response to landiolol hydrochloride during general anesthesia.
Landiolol hydrochloride is a new ultra-short-acting beta(1)-adrenergic receptor blocking agent that is used for patients with tachycardia during general anesthesia. The hemodynamic response to a beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent is generally dependent on the subject. In the present investigation we investigated the effects of age and sex on the hemodynamic response to different doses of landiolol. ⋯ The logistic function reliably represents the hemodynamic responses to landiolol. Landiolol reduces HR rapidly and in a dose-dependent manner whereas landiolol-induced changes in sBP and dBP are independent of dose. A larger decrease in HR is caused by landiolol in elderly patients, but there is no sex difference in the landiolol-induced change in HR.

Comparative StudyInfluence of initial use of serotonergic antidepressants on antiparkinsonian drug use in levodopa-using patients.
To assess whether there is an association between initial use of serotonergic antidepressants and changes in antiparkinsonian drug treatment. ⋯ Based on these observations, we found no evidence to be more cautious using SSRIs or serotonergic antidepressants compared to other antidepressants in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Fate of the abstracts presented at three Spanish clinical pharmacology congresses and reasons for unpublished research.
To assess the publication rate of abstracts at 5 years after their presentation at three consecutive clinical pharmacology congresses and to examine the reasons relating to the lack of publication. ⋯ Only one-quarter of the abstracts presented at SSCP congresses were subsequently published. A lack of time and interest were the main reasons given for not submitting these presentations for publication. Authors, scientific societies and editorial boards should enhance publications as full papers in peer-reviewed journals of the abstracts presented at meetings.

The awareness among paediatricians of off-label prescribing in children: a survey of Italian hospitals.
To investigate paediatricians' perception and awareness of off-label (OL) and unlicensed drug usage in clinical practice. ⋯ Italian paediatricians perceived different drugs as unlicensed/OL from those identified by existing prescriptions studies. These perceived drugs may represent a priority in tackling the problem of OL usage in the hospital practice. The review of the Italian Summary Product Characteristics of some of the drugs identified, together with the monitoring of permanent clinical practice and with new clinical research, may be a step forward to reduce OL use in children.
