Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is infection by cestode Taenia solium/pork tapeworm. Sero-diagnosis of NCC is still a challenge. Radiological imaging (CT/MRI) are cost intensive, requires technical expertise and resource intensive. Hence, its availability is restricted in endemic zone. Existing Enzyme electro immune transfer blot (EITB) antigens are difficult to make and is not standardized for endemic population. Therefore, there is a definite need for easy and reliable EITB tool. ⋯ Presence of 35 kDa band on EITB was associated with infection by multiple cysticerci. The observations demand purification of cyst fluid antigens to develop simple and easy to execute test in field studies.

The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), remains a global challenge. Despite intense research efforts worldwide, an effective vaccine and viable treatment options have eluded investigators. Therefore, infection prevention, early viral detection and identification of successful treatment protocols provide the best approach in controlling disease spread. In this review, current therapeutic options, preventive methods and transmission routes of COVID-19 are discussed.

Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Cardiovascular diseases such as AMI, AS, cardiac hypertrophy and cardiac fibrosis can be alleviated by controlling the inflammatory response, cellular proliferation, production of ROS and secretion of cytokines. Sestrins are considered to be protective proteins which can prevent age-related diseases. ⋯ According to existing studies, the main functions of sestrins are strongly associated with the pathological features of cardiovascular disease and exert protective roles in cardiovascular disease. Based on the current evidence, we present a mini-review on the physiological functions and mechanism of sestrins in cardiology. The purpose of this review is to summarize the functions and mechanism of sestrins in common cardiovascular diseases, to raise awareness in clinicians that sestrins may be an important potential target for controlling progression of disease.

The underlying changes of peripheral blood inflammatory cells (PBICs) in COVID-19 patients are little known. Moreover, the risk factors for the underlying changes of PBICs and their predicting role in severe COVID-19 patients remain uncertain. ⋯ Lymphopenia and eosinopenia may serve as predictors of disease severity and disease progression in COVID-19 patients, and enhancing the cellular immunity may contribute to COVID-19 treatment. Thus, PBICs might become a sentinel of COVID-19, and it deserves attention during COVID-19 treatment.
