Tenascin-C, a matricellular protein, is involved in brain injury. However, change of tenascin-C concentrations in peripheral blood remains unknown after traumatic brain injury (TBI). ⋯ Enhanced serum tenascin-C concentrations are closely related to trauma severity and clinical outcomes, substantializing tenascin-C as a potential prognostic biomarker after TBI.

Increased admission serum cold-inducible RNA-binding protein concentration is associated with prognosis of severe acute pancreatitis.
Cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (CIRP) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine. This study assessed its relation to disease severity and major adverse events (namely local complications, organ failure and in-hospital mortality) of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) and its discriminatory ability for SAP. ⋯ Increased serum CIRP concentrations clearly reflect SAP severity and prognosis and significantly distinguish SAP, substantializing CIRP as a potential SAP biomarker.

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a well-known pro-inflammatory cytokine. Serum MIF concentrations are associated with the severity and prognosis of ischemic stroke. ⋯ Increased serum MIF concentrations have close relation to inflammation, trauma severity and clinical outcomes, substantializing MIF as a good prognostic biomarker after TBI.

We examined the critical gap for pediatric reference intervals in China byvalidating 3 existing pediatric reference intervals (RIs) of complete blood count(CBC) respectively. ⋯ There is a gap for pediatric RIs in China. It is imperative to initiate research on establishing and validating pediatric RIs in China.

IL-37 emerges as a natural suppressor of inflammatory responses. The potential role of IL-37 in the pathology of atherosclerosis is unclear. The purpose of this study was to assess IL-37 profile in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and the prognostic role of this cytokine in patients with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). ⋯ We demonstrated the IL-37 profile in patients with acute coronary syndrome and the increased IL-37 concentration was associated with a worse clinical in-hospital outcome in STEMI patients undergoing PPCI.
