The periaqueductal gray matter (PAG) is considered to play an important role in generating migraine, but findings from imaging studies remain unclear. Therefore, we investigated whether diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) can detect changes in the PAG of migraine patients. ⋯ DKI detected significant increases in the MK and MD values of the PAG in patients with migraine, which suggests that structural changes in the PAG are associated with the pathophysiological mechanisms of migraine.

Delayed hemorrhagic complications after flow diversion for intracranial aneurysms: a literature overview.
Delayed aneurysm rupture and delayed intraparenchymal hemorrhages (DIPH) are poorly understood and often fatal complications of flow diversion (FD) for intracranial aneurysms. The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors for these complications. ⋯ Our study demonstrates that giant aneurysms represent almost 50% of delayed aneurysm ruptures in the flow diverter literature. About 2% of delayed ruptures occurred despite associated coiling. A substantial proportion of DIPHs occur early following FDS treatment of giant aneurysms.

Q-ball imaging models: comparison between high and low angular resolution diffusion-weighted MRI protocols for investigation of brain white matter integrity.
Q-ball imaging (QBI) is one of the typical data models for quantifying white matter (WM) anisotropy in diffusion-weighted MRI (DwMRI) studies. Brain and spinal investigation by high angular resolution DwMRI (high angular resolution imaging (HARDI)) protocols exhibits higher angular resolution in diffusion imaging compared to low angular resolution models, although with longer acquisition times. We aimed to assess the difference between QBI-derived anisotropy values from high and low angular resolution DwMRI protocols and their potential advantages or shortcomings in neuroradiology. ⋯ Our results suggest that the design of optimal DwMRI acquisition protocols for clinical investigation of WM anisotropy by QBI models should consider the specific brain target regions to be explored, inducing researchers to a trade-off choice between angular resolution and acquisition time.

Pontine tegmental cap dysplasia (PTCD) is a recently described brain malformation associated with multiple cranial neuropathies, most commonly congenital sensorineural hearing loss. The purpose of this study is to systematically characterize the cranial nerve and temporal bone findings in a cohort of children with this rare condition. ⋯ Patients with PTCD have highly characteristic temporal bone and cranial nerve findings on both CT and MR. Recognition of these findings is important for improved diagnosis of this rare disorder, particularly by CT.
