3,4-Methylenedioxy-β-Nitrostyrene Ameliorates Experimental Burn Wound Progression by Inhibiting the NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation.
Burn wound progression remains a challenging problem in the clinic. Secondary tissue damage caused by unlimited inflammatory response is considered to be one of the key factors contributing to this clinical problem. Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome has recently been found to play important roles in immune activation and the inflammatory response after burn/trauma. This experimental study aims (1) to observe the expression and distribution of NLRP3 inflammasome in burn wounds of a rat burn model and (2) to study whether inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome activation would ameliorate burn wound progression. ⋯ In this study, the authors demonstrated that burn induced NLRP3 inflammasome activation and inflammatory response in wounds, which may be associated with burn wound progression. Treatment with 3,4-methylenedioxy-β-nitrostyrene inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation, ameliorated burn wound progression, and promoted wound healing.

ReviewThe Current Role of Three-Dimensional Printing in Plastic Surgery.
Since the advent of three-dimensional printing in the 1980s, it has become possible to produce physical objects from digital files and create three-dimensional objects by adding one layer at a time following a predetermined pattern. Because of the continued development of inexpensive and easy-to-use three-dimensional printers and bioprinting, this technique has gained more momentum over time, especially in the field of medicine. This article reviews the current and possible future application of three-dimensional printing technology within the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Comparative StudyImproving Outcomes in Immediate and Delayed Nerve Grafting of Peripheral Nerve Gaps Using Light-Activated Sealing of Neurorrhaphy Sites with Human Amnion Wraps.
Photochemical tissue bonding uses visible light to create sutureless, watertight bonds between two apposed tissue surfaces stained with photoactive dye. When applied to nerve grafting, photochemical tissue bonding can result in superior outcomes compared with suture fixation. Our previous success has focused on immediate repair. It was the aim of this study to assess the efficacy of photochemical tissue bonding when performed following a clinically relevant delay. ⋯ Light-activated sealing of nerve grafts results in significantly better outcomes in comparison with conventional suture. The technique not only remains efficacious but may also help ameliorate the detrimental impacts of surgical delay.
