There exists a knowledge gap regarding the safety of training in cardiac surgery. The purpose of this analysis was to establish the safety of resident training in cardiac surgery and compare the results of the trainee cases to those performed by consultants. ⋯ Resident training is safe in cardiac surgery without compromising the quality of patient care.

Successful Lung Transplantation After Acellular Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion With Prone Positioning.
Use of prone positioning during ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) with the Toronto protocol reduced pulmonary edema in marginal human donor lungs. This report describes 2 cases in which prone positioning during EVLP significantly reduced lung weight. One of the 2 cases resulted in successful double-lung transplantation.

The onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has forced our cardiac surgery program and hospital to enact drastic measures that has forced us to change how we care for cardiac surgery patients, assist with COVID-19 care, and enable support for the hospital in terms of physical resources, providers, and resident training. ⋯ We recognize that individual programs around the world will eventually face COVID-19 with varying levels of infection burden and different resources, and we hope this document can assist programs to plan for the future.
