Review Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Impact of new oral or intravenous P2Y12 inhibitors and clopidogrel on major ischemic and bleeding events in patients with coronary artery disease: a meta-analysis of randomized trials.
New P2Y12 inhibitors can be classified as oral (prasugrel and ticagrelor) and intravenous drugs (cangrelor and elinogrel). These P2Y12 inhibitors might be superior to clopidogrel for reducing ischemic events in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). We performed a meta-analysis of randomized trials that compared new oral or intravenous P2Y12 inhibitors with clopidogrel to determine their efficacy and safety in patients. ⋯ New oral P2Y12 inhibitors reduce ischemic events, but there is no obvious increase in major bleeding in patients with CAD, and the risk/benefit ratio is particularly favorable for STEMI patients. Moreover, only cangrelor is beneficial for ischemic events in patients on new intravenous P2Y12 inhibitors.

Intramyocardial autologous bone marrow cell transplantation for ischemic heart disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
This study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of intramyocardial bone marrow cell (BMC) transplant therapy for ischemic heart disease (IHD). ⋯ Intramyocardial BMC injection contributes to improvement in left ventricular dysfunction and reduction in left ventricular volume. Patients with revascularizable IHD may benefit more from this therapy.

Comparative Study Observational Study
Impact of gender on the density of intraplaque neovascularization: a quantitative contrast-enhanced ultrasound study.
Atherosclerosis is the main underlying cause of the majority of cardiovascular events. Although cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are a major challenge in both males and females, gender specific differences in the prevalence of CVD have been observed. This may indicate that there are differences in the development of atherosclerosis between males and females. The presence of intraplaque neovessels (IPN) is an imaging marker for plaque vulnerability. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of gender on IPN. ⋯ In this population at increased risk for CVD, females had significantly more IPN compared to males. This suggests that the females had a more vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque type.

Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) accumulation is believed to be associated with development of coronary atherosclerosis. We investigated whether EAT volume as assessed by computed tomography (CT) has value in prediction of future cardiac events. ⋯ We suggest that high EAT volume may be an independent predictor of future coronary events and increases predictive values of CAC score in patients without proven CAD.
