[Spontaneous remission of an amiodarone-induced pulmonary lesion].
Amiodarone is an effective class-III antiarrhythmic agent. However, during long term therapy 1-10% of patients develop severe adverse pulmonary reactions, which are potentially life threatening. We report the case of a patient who developed dyspnoea and extensive pulmonary infiltrates compatible with amiodarone-associated interstitial lung disease following 6 months of treatment with amdiodarone (300 mg daily) for atrial flutter. On discontinuation of amiodarone treatment the infiltrates impressively resolved almost completely within 8 weeks, without administration of corticosteroids.

Transcranial Doppler for early identification of potential organ transplant donors.
Encouraging results in transplant medicine create a growing demand for organ transplant donors. Transcranial Doppler (TCD) has been used by several investigators to assess arrest of the cerebral circulation in brain dead patients. We report on TCD as a monitoring tool for early identification of potential organ transplant donors. ⋯ TCD examinations on a daily routine basis offer a noninvasive monitoring method for early assessment of intracranial circulatory arrest. TCD enables quick identification and further diagnosis of candidates for organ transplant donation.

Biography Historical Article[The Rokitansky morgue. Historical retrospect on the occasion of the anniversary years of Vienna pathology 1996 and 1997].
On the occasion of three anniversaries in 1996 and 1997 the historical background of the early pathology in Vienna is documented. 1796 Aloys Rudolph Vetter became the first official prosector of the "Allgemeines Krankenhaus". Since 1817, i.e., 180 years ago, continuously autopsy reports were documented, written by Rokitansky, Kundrat, Kolisko, Weichselbaum and the discoverer of blood groups Landsteiner. 1827 november 1st, Carl Rokitansky entered the old "Leichenhaus" as a practitioner without academic degree. Of this house exist three different pictures, only one of them is an authentic photograph, the others are drawings. This rare original photograph of the working room from the beginning of Viennese pathology is first published in medical literature in honour to the long tradition of autopsy-performing pathology.
