Duplications of the esophagus are the second most common duplication of the gastrointestinal tract. The children with esophageal duplication cyst usually present with respiratory distress or as asymptomatic thoracic mass found on incidental chest x-ray. We report a case of infected esophageal duplication cyst initially confused with empyema in a two years old boy.

To evaluate the health related quality of life of children after intensive care and to assess their long term survival. ⋯ Quality of life in three-quarters of the patients was preserved and one year survival was favorable. Worsening was noted primarily in-patients with neurological illnesses.

To evolve a triage scoring system for severity of illness based on clinical variables related to systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). ⋯ For triage scoring, any child with 2 or more abnormal clinical variables should be taken as serious that might lead to death. With a more detailed scoring, score of 2.5 can be taken as cut-off to select children who possibly need admission and closer observation.

A 7-day-old male baby was referred with history of persistent multifocal convulsions from second day of life. He was found to have hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, normal serum magnesium and normal renal function tests. ⋯ Baby was diagnosed as case of pseudohypoparathyroidism and was treated with calcium supplementation and calcitriol. At 9 months he was asymptomatic on treatment, with normal serum calcium and phosphorus.
