Cardiovascular responses and postexercise hypotension after arm cycling exercise in subjects with spinal cord injury.
To examine postexercise hypotension and contributing factors in subjects with spinal cord injury (SCI). ⋯ Abnormal cardiovascular responses to exercise and transient postexercise hypotension were common in cervical, but not thoracic SCI. This may be partly related to loss of descending sympathetic nervous control of the heart and vasculature following high SCI.

Increased release of serotonin in the spinal cord during low, but not high, frequency transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation in rats with joint inflammation.
To determine the release pattern of serotonin and noradrenaline in the spinal cord in response to transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS) delivered at low or high frequency. ⋯ Low-frequency TENS releases serotonin in the spinal cord to produce antihyperalgesia by activation of serotonin receptors.

To investigate the use of a combined measure of decreased walking speed and gait deviation to identify high physical disability in patients with lower-limb salvage. ⋯ The combination of decreased walking speed and gait deviation appears to provide a valid measure of physical disability among patients with lower-limb salvage.
