Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyIsolated lumbar extensor strengthening versus regular physical therapy in an army working population with nonacute low back pain: a randomized controlled trial.
To evaluate the effectiveness of specific lumbar extensor training compared with regular physical therapy (PT) in workers with nonspecific nonacute low back pain (LBP). ⋯ Consistent with prior evidence, specific back strengthening does not seem to offer incremental benefits in LBP management compared with regular PT care that mainly consists of general exercise therapy. ReviewStandards of care for acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain: the Bone and Joint Decade (2000-2010).
Musculoskeletal conditions often manifest with the onset of pain and the resulting physical limitations. Musculoskeletal pain is almost inevitable in an individual's lifetime. It is one of the most common reasons for self-medication and entry into the health care system. ⋯ The standards of care in this document are designed to provide generic guidelines for appropriate care of people with acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain. This document was developed over a 4-year period using multiple international meetings and a Task Force of the Bone and Joint Decade for developing international standards for the care of acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain. The final document is a product of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Evidence-Based Health Care in Musculoskeletal Disorders.

Estimating maximum work rate during incremental cycle ergometry testing from six-minute walk distance in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
To develop a predictive equation to permit estimation of the maximum work rate (Wmax) achieved during an incremental cycle ergometry test from the measurement of 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) and its derivative, 6-minute walk work, which is the product of 6MWD and body weight. ⋯ Wmax can be estimated from equations based on measurements of 6MWD or 6-minute walk work. The estimate of Wmax derived from either equation may provide a basis on which to prescribe cycle ergometry training work rates that comply with the current guidelines for pulmonary rehabilitation.

Intraobserver reliability of angular and linear measurements of scapular position in subjects with and without symptoms.
To assess intraobserver reliability of angular and linear clinical measurements of scapular position. ⋯ Repeated-measure (ICC(2,3)) results were more reliable than single-measure (ICC(2,1)) results. Very good to excellent intraobserver reliability was demonstrated for the angular and linear measurements of interest in both shoulders of subjects with and without symptoms. The 2 SE results provide guidance about the error associated with the individual measurements and will assist the clinician determining whether a change in the static position of the scapula has occurred as a result of intervention or over time.
