Comparative Study Clinical TrialPilot study assessing the impact of intrathecal baclofen administration mode on sleep-related respiratory parameters.
To assess the impact of intrathecal baclofen (ITB) mode of administration on sleep and sleep-related breathing events in severely disabled patients with severe spasticity. ⋯ These results indicate that sleep function and sleep-related respiratory events should be assessed before ITB pump implantation. It is probably better to use a continuous mode of infusion if patients have preexisting sleep-disordered breathing.

Occurrence and temporal evolution of upper limb spasticity in stroke patients admitted to a rehabilitation unit.
To document the temporal development and evolution of upper limb spasticity, and to establish clinical correlates and predictors of upper limb spasticity in a cohort of stroke patients. ⋯ Upper limb spasticity was relatively infrequent in this study, occurring in 33% of patients at 3 months after stroke. Selective monitoring to detect severe spasticity is recommended for patients with an Ashworth Scale score of 2 or greater at 3 months after stroke, and in patients with severe upper limb weakness on admission to rehabilitation.

Comparative StudyRelationships between activities, participation, personal factors, mental health, and life satisfaction in persons with spinal cord injury.
To clarify relationships between activities, participation, mental health, and life satisfaction in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) and specify how personal factors (self-efficacy, neuroticism, appraisals) interact with these components. We hypothesized that (1) activities are related directly to participation, participation is related directly to mental health and life satisfaction, and mental health and life satisfaction are 2 interrelated outcome variables; and (2) appraisals are mediators between participation and mental health and life satisfaction, and self-efficacy and neuroticism are related directly to mental health and life satisfaction and indirectly through appraisals. ⋯ Mental health and life satisfaction can be seen as 2 separate but interrelated outcome variables. Self-efficacy and neuroticism are related directly to mental health and indirectly to life satisfaction through the mediating role of appraisals.

Comparative StudyProgress assessed with the Mayo-Portland Adaptability Inventory in 604 participants in 4 types of post-inpatient rehabilitation brain injury programs.
To compare progress in 4 types of post-inpatient rehabilitation brain injury programs. ⋯ Results are consistent with stated goals of the programs; that is, intensive programs resulted in functional improvements, whereas supported living programs produced stable functioning. Further studies using data from this large, multiprovider measurement collaboration will potentially provide the foundation for developing outcome expectations for various types of postacute brain injury programs.

Comparative StudyThe effects of pressure release, phonophoresis of hydrocortisone, and ultrasound on upper trapezius latent myofascial trigger point.
To compare the effects of pressure release (PR), phonophoresis of hydrocortisone (PhH) 1%, and ultrasonic therapy (UT) in patients with an upper trapezius latent myofascial trigger point (MTP). ⋯ Our results indicate that all 3 treatments used in this study were effective for treating MTP. According to this study, PhH is suggested as a new method effective for the treatment of MTP.
