Review Meta AnalysisEffects of Preoperative Breathing Exercise on Postoperative Outcomes for Lung Cancer Patients Undergoing Curative Intent Lung Resection: A Meta-Analysis.
To determine the benefits of preoperative breathing exercises on hospital length of stay (LOS), pneumonia, postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC), 6-minute walk distance (6MWD), forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients undergoing surgical lung cancer resection. ⋯ Preoperative breathing exercises reduced LOS, PPC, and pneumonia and potentially improved 6MWD in patients undergoing surgical lung cancer resection. Breathing exercises in combination with aerobic exercise yielded greater reductions in LOS. Randomized controlled trials are needed to test the feasibility of introducing a preoperative breathing exercise program in this patient population.

Meta AnalysisIntervention Treatment for Myocardial Infarction With Tai Chi: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
To assess the efficacy of Tai Chi (TC) in patients with myocardial infarction and provide up-to-date evidence for its application. ⋯ Compared with no exercise or other types of low-intensity physical activities, TC improved the outcome of the 6-minute walk, left ventricular ejection fraction, quality of life, and short form-36 scores, but reduced the outcome of pro-B type natriuretic peptide in patients with myocardial infarction. Therefore, TC could be an effective exercise option for cardiac rehabilitation. More research should be done to identify the effects of TC on academic functioning and to determine ways of motivating patients to use preventive TC interventions.

Meta AnalysisEffects of Inspiratory Muscle Training and Early Mobilization on Weaning of Mechanical Ventilation: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis.
To compare the effectiveness and rank order of physical therapy interventions, including conventional physical therapy (CPT), inspiratory muscle training (IMT), and early mobilization (EM) on mechanical ventilation (MV) duration and weaning duration. ⋯ IMT or EM should be recommended for improving the weaning outcomes in mechanically ventilated patients. However, an interpretation with caution is required due to the heterogeneity.

Meta AnalysisEffectiveness of Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections for Nonsurgical Management of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.
To systematically review and evaluate the efficacy and complication profile of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection into the carpal tunnel for management of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). ⋯ PRP represents a promising therapy for patients with mild to moderate CTS; however, included studies were limited as follow-up was short, the studies included patients that were heterogeneous, and the number of included studies was low. Further investigation is necessary to determine the true efficacy and effect of PRP and to better delineate the long-term results in patients with CTS.

Meta AnalysisWhole Body Vibration Exercise for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.
This study systematically reviews previous work on the effects of whole body vibration exercise (WBVE) on pain associated with chronic musculoskeletal disorders. ⋯ Evidence suggests positive effects of WBVE on chronic musculoskeletal pain, and long durations of WBVE could be especially beneficial. However, WBVE does not significantly relieve chronic musculoskeletal pain compared with the traditional treatment. Further work is required to identify which parameters of WBVE are ideal for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain.
