Comparative StudyPelvic mobility when bending forward in standing position: validity and reliability of 2 motion analysis devices.
To evaluate the validity and reliability of 2 measurement devices that assess pelvic mobility in persons bending forward while in a standing position. ⋯ The Rachimètre and the CMS 50 have acceptable metric properties. Because few simple clinical measurements are available to evaluate pelvic mobility during trunk flexion in standing position, these 2 devices could be useful in the clinical evaluation of low back pain.

Case ReportsBaastrup's disease correlating with diffuse lumbar paraspinal atrophy: a case report.
Baastrup's disease ("kissing spine") is an x-ray finding that has been considered a possible cause of low back pain (LBP) since the 1930s. Its etiology is unknown, and there are no reports of muscle or soft tissue changes associated with it. This case report concerns a 57-year-old man with chronic LBP, stiffness, and indurated skin over the back. ⋯ CT showed profound fatty replacement of the paraspinal musculature. An electromyography report showed severe isolated paraspinal denervation. This case suggests that diffuse fatty replacement of the paraspinal muscles, perhaps due to a compartment syndrome or other vascular event, may have a role in the pathogenesis of Baastrup's disease.

Long-latency auditory-evoked potentials in severe traumatic brain injury.
To detect the effects of different deviant stimuli on long-latency auditory-evoked potentials (LLAEPs) in patients with severe impairment of consciousness from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and to define their prognostic value for late functional outcome. ⋯ LLAEPs can be recorded in patients with severe impairment of consciousness by means of passive paradigms. The use of a stimulus that is relevant for the patient can enhance the accuracy of the test and its relationship with functional outcome.

Comparative StudyInpatient interdisciplinary rehabilitation after total hip arthroplasty surgery: a comparison of revision and primary total hip arthroplasty.
To describe outcomes of revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients who underwent interdisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation, and to compare them with primary THA patients. ⋯ THA patients selected for inpatient rehabilitation have favorable short-term functional outcomes. The type of THA (primary vs revision) is not an independent differentiating factor.

To use spinal cord injury (SCI) care and research as a paradigm to illustrate how the principles and practices of outcomes research have been and can be applied to the sequelae of a specific disability. ⋯ Contemporary outcomes research is relevant to people with SCI and those who provide treatment. One area of special attention is the occurrence of secondary conditions. To a large extent, SCI outcomes research can use conventional methods and generic instruments. There also is a need to modify research methods and to refine and apply some measures specific to people with SCI.
