Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the universal Portuguese-version of the Pediatric Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Fatigue (pedsFACIT-F).
To cross-culturally adapt and validate the universal Portuguese version of the Pediatric Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Fatigue (pedsFACIT-F). ⋯ The universal Portuguese version of the pedsFACIT-F provides a reliable, precise, and valid measure after being assessed by robust psychometric properties. Stability of the measurement properties of the pedsFACIT-F scale allows its use to assess fatigue in clinical research in Portuguese-speaking children and adolescents.

First report of two consecutive respiratory syncytial virus outbreaks by the novel genotypes ON-1 and NA-2 in a neonatal intensive care unit.
Respiratory syncytial virus is a pathogen frequently involved in nosocomial outbreaks. Although several studies have reported nosocomial outbreaks in neonatal intensive care units, molecular epidemiology data are scarce. Here, the authors describe two consecutive respiratory syncytial virus outbreaks caused by genotypes ON-1 and NA-2 in a neonatal intensive care unit in São Paulo, Brazil. ⋯ Infants in a neonatal intensive care unit who develop abrupt respiratory symptoms should be tested for respiratory viruses, especially respiratory syncytial virus. Even in the absence of severe symptoms, respiratory syncytial virus detection can prevent nosocomial transmission through infection control measures. A better understanding of respiratory syncytial virus molecular epidemiology is essential for developing new vaccines and antiviral drugs against respiratory syncytial virus.

Review the main aspects of the definition, diagnosis, and management of pediatric patients with sepsis and septic shock. ⋯ The implementation of protocols and advanced technologies have reduced sepsis mortality. In resource-poor settings, good practices such as early sepsis identification, antibiotic administration, and careful fluid infusion are the cornerstones of sepsis management.

Prevalence and causes of congenital microcephaly in the absence of a Zika virus outbreak in southern Brazil.
The aim of this study was to identify the causes of congenital microcephaly in Rio Grande do Sul, a state in southern Brazil, where no ZIKV outbreak was detected, from December 2015 to December 2016, which was the period when ZIKV infection was at its peak in northeast Brazil. ⋯ In Rio Grande do Sul, where no outbreak of ZIKV infection was recorded, congenital infections were the leading cause of congenital microcephaly, and the attributable risk for CZS in the etiology of microcephaly was 5.2%.
