Evaluation of the impact of CSF prion RT-QuIC and amended criteria on the clinical diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease: a 10-year study in Italy.
The introduction of the prion Real-Time Quaking-Induced Conversion assay (RT-QuIC) has led to a revision of the diagnostic criteria for sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD).Validation studies are needed for the amended criteria, especially for their diagnostic value in the clinical setting. ⋯ CSF RT-QuIC is highly sensitive and specific for diagnosing CJD in vitam. The Q-CM criteria provide a high diagnostic value for CJD.

Role of small acute hyperintense lesions in long-term progression of cerebral small vessel disease and clinical outcome: a 14-year follow-up study.
Small hyperintense lesions are found on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in patients with sporadic small vessel disease (SVD). Their exact role in SVD progression remains unclear due to their asymptomatic and transient nature. The main objective is to investigate the role of DWI+lesions in the radiological progression of SVD and their relationship with clinical outcomes. ⋯ Presence of a DWI+lesion in patients with SVD is associated with greater radiological progression of SVD and cognitive decline compared with patients without DWI+lesions.

Monoaminergic network abnormalities: a marker for multiple sclerosis-related fatigue and depression.
To investigate monoaminergic network abnormalities in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) according to their fatigue and depressive status through a positron emission tomography (PET)-based constrained independent component analysis (ICA) on resting state (RS) functional MRI (fMRI). ⋯ Patients with MS present diffuse dysregulation in the monoaminergic networks. Specific alterations in these networks were associated with fatigue and depression, providing a pathological marker for these bothersome symptoms and putative targets for their treatment.
