Association between spirometry pattern, left ventricular diastolic function, and mortality.
Spirometric abnormalities have been related to incident heart failure in general population, who generally have preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). We aimed to investigate the association between spirometric indices, cardiac functions and clinical outcomes. ⋯ The restrictive spirometry pattern or the declined FVC was associated with left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, which aggravated the long-term mortality in the ambulatory dyspnoeic subjects.

Review Meta AnalysisAssociation of choline and betaine with the risk of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality: Meta-analysis.
This study aimed to systematically evaluate the role of circulating levels of choline and betaine in the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality by comprehensively reviewing observational studies. ⋯ Higher levels of circulating choline were associated with a higher risk of CVD and all-cause mortality.

Role of PERK-mediated pathway in the effect of mild hypothermia after cerebral ischaemia/reperfusion.
Hypothermia is an effective method of reducing brain injury caused by a variety of neurological insults. It is aimed to elucidate whether a change in the expression of PERK-mediated pathway proteins is an indicator of the neuroprotective effect of mild hypothermia after cerebral ischaemia/reperfusion. ⋯ Mild hypothermia for 6 h promoted moderate neuroprotection by mediating the expression of GRP78, p-PERK, p-eIF2α, ATF4 and CHOP.

Review Meta AnalysisReparixin improves survival in critically ill and transplant patients: A meta-analysis.
Reparixin, an anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits interleukin 8 (IL-8) activity, might be life-saving for high-risk in-hospital patients without increasing the risk of infection according to a previous meta-analysis. With the increasing availability of randomised data the aim of the current study is to update previous findings by including any randomised control trials (RCTs) investigating the impact of reparixin on survival of critically ill or transplant patients. ⋯ The findings of this meta-analysis indicate that reparixin, an anti-inflammatory drug, improved survival in critically ill or transplant patients (including both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients) without increasing the risk of infection.

Prehospital seizures: Short-term outcomes and risk stratification based in point-of-care testing.
Information for treatment or hospital derivation of prehospital seizures is limited, impairing patient condition and hindering patients risk assessment by the emergency medical services (EMS). This study aimed to determine the associated factors to clinical impairment, and secondarily, to determine risk factors associated to cumulative in-hospital mortality at 2, 7 and 30 days, in patients presenting prehospital seizures. ⋯ Our study shows that prehospital variables could reflect the clinical impairment and mortality of patients suffering from seizures. The incorporation of such variables in the prehospital decision-making process could improve patient outcomes.
